I know what you mean about it being a "Cornish thing" Maggie.

My Prynn's have been a nightmare to research over the years.

Is it a Cornish thing?
My great grandfather appears on his marriage certificate to my g grandmother, birth certificate of my gran and death certificate as Sidney Johnson.
I couldn't find him on any census, but knew he had a sister called Beatrice, so looked for her.
Sidney's name was Gifford/Gilford!
His brothers - christened Sylvanus and Ivor, were known as Herbert and Frederick!
The other brother, Ernest, stuck to his given name.

When my g gran died, Sidney/Gilford, remarried as Gilford, but joined the Army as Sidney. :-S :-S

My Grt Grandmother appears as Jane on her marriage certificate, death certificate and all the census records.

She was the eldest child born 1852/1853 Liskeard, Cornwall.

All her siblings births were registered but there is no birth registered for Jane.

There are several variations of her mothers maiden name.

Prynn/Pryn/Prinn/Prin

Soooo, messing about on the GRO this morning, i checked out births (Male and Female) between 1852 to 1871, by just entering the surname Hancock and all variations of Prynn.

And .......up popped

Births Jun 1852 (>99%)
HANCOCK Philippa Jane MMN Prin Liskeard 5c 71

Apart from the birth registration, there are no other records showing for this Philippa...so just to be certain and fingers crossed, i have ordered a PDF copy of the certificate.

If it is her, what a shame to drop the name Philippa.

I also found two more children i didn't know about......

Births Jun 1857 (>99%)
Hancock Martha Donaldson MMN Prin Liskeard 5c 82

:-(

Deaths Dec 1857 (>99%)
Hancock Martha Donaldson Liskeard 5c 49

And......

Births Mar 1862 (>99%)
HANCOCK John Albert MMN Prinn Liskeard 5c 67

:-(

Deaths Mar 1863 (>99%)
HANCOCK John Albert Liskeard 5c 47

One minute i was smiling :-D.... next minute sad :-(
