To all our Canadian members - heartfelt sympathy on the loss of so many young men and the driver in a terrible accident.

It's awful ........

15 dead, 14 injured some critical. The dead include the head coach, trainer, (local) radio announcer, as well as players.

The youngest player was 16, the eldest 21.

Most of the players were from elsewhere in Canada, and billeted with families in the area while they played with the team and went to school.

It's hit the professional hockey players hard as well .............. almost every hockey player who makes it into the top level of play (the NHL) has played on a Junior A hockey team, and been on hundreds of those road trips by bus. Several of the current NHL players played for the Humboldt team.


I think the nearest I can remember that hit as hard for me, and that might resonate with some of you, was the Busby Babes of Manchester United ...... the plane crash in Munich in 1958.
