Thank you Londonbelle and Magpie,

Its probably right because my mother always said thier side of the family were not as bright as my fathers side, and the Ancester is from her side.

Do not come on here that often lately but i knew i could count on you all who use this site , always were very helpful on here .

Thanks again Flo.

Yes, this is what it means along with R or Read and SUP, which means Superior Education

Hi Flo,

I think it's to do with their literacy

N = Neither Read or Write
Imp = Read and Write Imperfectly
Well = Read and Write Well

So Imp would mean he could read and write but not very well

Hello ,

I have tried asking this on Anc without any luck, here,s hoping someone on here can help .

I have an Ancester who was deported for life convicted of larceny.
i was looking at some records about it where i came across this info i cannot understand .
Where it says Degree of Instruction some convicts have either N , _ Well _or Imp
beside thier names and ages ect.
Can someone please explain what they mean? my Ancester has Imp beside his
name?
Thanking you in advance.
Flo.
