WhiffingSiggs ............. yes the free sites are still in progress, because they depend on volunteers, BUT GR has often taken the records from those very sites!

If GR is not still upgrading records, then GR is further behind than the free sites!

BTW ........ email the other day said ancestry now has the GRO England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1916-2007

but Ancestry is easy to use IF you use the filters

Click on Show More Options

Click on Match All terms Exactly

Go to Collections Focus ...... select eg UK and Ireland

My problem is more often the opposite of yours ..................... trying to work out how to get MORE records. I don't usually get overloaded with information.

I find overloading is more often a problem on FMP, especially now that they have changed their way of searching and filtering.

Here's one for the books...I basically agree with Rollo...the "trouble" with Ancestry is they give you so much information and some just grab everything they're told without double checking. Many a mistake is easily made.

Why doesn't that surprise us Rollo?!!!

I find the GR search functions work just fine.
Search on Ancestry can be v irritating as it more like a fishing trip ctaching all sorts of fish except the ones you are looking for,

Try Ancestry.

Wise words, thanks. I have just, annoyingly paid to use the search, wish I'd bought an FMP subscription now ! I do use the free sites but many are 'works in progress'. Same old gripe, every site seems to have a bit of something but none seem to have everything.

patience is now required for this site!

All the money goes to the sister site FMP, as many of us (including myself) predicted back when brightsolid was allowed to take over GR. No matter the promises made to the Competitions Board, this site is being driven into the ground

The good thing is still what it has always been ................... members helping members.

Just keep persisting, and you'll get there.

Don't forget, all the records you're searching can be found elsewhere, many of them for free
