I remember when the King died, I was 9, I can't remember anyone crying but they may have done!! I was 10 1/2 at the Coronation, and I remember it quite quite well. Watching it on our Telly built by my stepfather, with other family members. It rained nearly all day! and was cold! I can remember going up to the Town Hall with my parents for the bun throwing, and the market place in the evening for the Ox spit roast. Everyone was very happy and very hopeful. How long ago it seems! I had a coronation crown worth 5/- given to me by my step grandfather. I think I had a coach and horses too :-S!!

I was 4 and it was the first time I saw a TV. My aunt had one for the coronation and she invited lots of people to watch it. We children sat on the floor and the adults sat behind us. Those who lived close bought their own chairs.Food was supplied by everyone.

Remember Prince Charles looking over the balcony at his mum. :-D

I am sure somewhere I have a model coach and horses from that special day. I still have the embossed tin (without the toffees) I was given at school. I would have been nearly 5 and not long at school.

I loved the programme the other evening.

Will you shut up about how long ago the Coronation was?

My only claim to fame is that I was born on Australia Day, Coronation year and I really don't want to be reminded of how long ago that was!

I did mention it to a lecturer once and he asked me which King.

Ummmm I wasn't born - but it's an incredible achievement :-D

My late husband was a Queens scout selling programmes on the Mall on Coronation day I still have all the letters he received first telling him the dress code travel plans and how he should behave at all times and lastly a thank you.He told me he came home very tired and very wet but he had a good view of every thing and yes I have a programme to.

I just remember it myself has I had just turned three but I can remember the party and the races in the village

I do remember it I was 6 at the time my Mum & Dad had a tiny black & white television all the neighbours were trying to get into the front room long time ago now .she looks amazing for her age <3 xx Barbara <3

I managed to obtain "The Coronation" book of 1953 at a charity shop.

Although there are creases on two pages, the book has the most
beautiful pictures of the ceremony and the procession.

There are also the adverts, for pears soap!

Its a lovely keepsake.

I remember being a pupil in primary school. A weepy teacher entered the class room

and whispered to our class teacher. She started crying. Then, she pulled herself

together and said to her pupils, "THE KING IS DEAD" then we all started crying.

I didn't know the King, I'd never met him, but two adults were crying. Seemed enough.

On 2 June 1953, and on a very rainy day, a 27 year old married woman with two young children was crowned as Queen Elizabeth II.

On Monday 4 June, ITV, there will be a special programme showing parts of the coronation and people memories of the day.

God Save The Queen.
