It may well be that not knowing about these things is a bit of poetic licence - just an attempt to make the programme interesting. But it is possible that Olivia Colman and others really didn’t know.

When my father died and my brother and I were going through his things we came across several photos that we had never seen before, though they did seem to be family snaps. In fact I put one on My Keepsafe in the hope of getting help dating the clothes to try and work out who the people in the photo could be.

My Dad enjoyed talking about his family so I can only imagine these photos had been packed away donkey’s years ago and not seen the light of day since.

I loved it as well. I wish I had such interesting ancestors.
I guess somebody had to stay home and work the land ;-) ;-) ;-)

Same here - but I (irritatingly) send them info whether they want it or not!
However, since finding (with the help of a nephew - only interested since he had his DNA done ) our 'aristocratic' roots (Lords. Ladies, MP's and Pirates), I am going to create a family tree that will be on display at our family holiday - where we're having a 'Pirate' day :-D :-D :-D

Many of my family are aware of my interest in Family History but not many have asked to see anything....in fact, sadly, none of my closest Family have ever shown any interest :-(

Did anyone else watch this episode?

I thought it was enthralling and so very interesting. Olivia was very good and genuinely excited about the findings.

Loved the paintings and photos which made her Ancestors so 'real'.

Thoroughly enjoyable.....hope the other episodes are as good :-)
