Mr Tibbs the cat was off his food on Friday but no obvious reasons why

Saturday he was really off and was out for several hours only having snacked a bit on his brekkie.

Went up the garden mid afternoon and he was in the border and stroking him only produced a pathetic miew, he then went walk about for several hours

A later visit and him sniffing his food and walking behind him I could see his left jaw was swollen

Overnight sat / Sunday the abcess has broken . He wouldn't let me bathe the area

So a vets visit today was two antibiotics jabs and try to bathe it once a day and £77 later we are sent home

He is eating again but no way will he let me bathe his wound

He must have had a fight but it's been costly

Shirley, I hope My Tibbs feels better soon :-(

Abscesses are awful.
I had one cat (Basil) who frequently 'acquired' abscesses.
Usually, his sister would lick the area free of fur, then I'd creep up with a fairly warm bread poultice and place it on the abscess, holding it there for as long as possible..
Basil wasn't happy, but after about 3 poultices, the abscess burst, I cleaned it, (a couple more poultices), his sister carried on licking it, and he was soon better.

Once he got one on his face, so I decided a visit to the vet was necessary.
Now, Basil was a huge (though neutered) Ginger Tom.
By huge, I mean a big cat who was 100% muscle, no fat - and he weighed a stone.
If he decided to hurt you - he could do serious damage.
Vet looked at Basil a bit warily. I explained that, in reality, Basil was an utter softy, and how I usually used bread poultices, and was still in possession of all my fingers!
The vet decided to keep Basil in, in case he had to anaesthetise him.

Well, the vet called me early the next morning.
All had gone well - they hadn't had to 'put Basil out' to clean the abscess - yes he was a very friendly cat - but could I pick him up as soon as possible!!!
As soon as I walked into the reception area - I heard him.

When Basil was really happy, when I called him, he'd run towards me purring madly, and making a sound that sounded a bit like 'Meowm -mu-mu -mummy'.
This sound was similar, but ten times louder, and more of a wail of despair.
Apparently, this had been going on all night!!
The 'on duty' vet had been unable to calm him, and hadn't slept.

As soon as Basil saw me - he stopped - much to the amazement and relief of both the staff, and other customers.
The vet said, if he got an abscess in future, wherever it was, to use a bread poultice, and only bring Basil in if it got REALLY nasty!
He must have been desperate, if a vet would rather not see an animal, and lose (at the time) £20 for saying 'How can I help you'!! :-S

Maggie
Mr Tibbs to can be aggressive
He is a very intelligent boy who knows exactly what he wants

If I don't respond to his vibes he can get very aggressive and attack my legs claws out

The vet says that's his make up !!

He shouldn't attack but that's him !!

I was lucky Basil was such a good tempered cat :-)

Hopefully, Mr Tibbs is just relaxing in a shrub somewhere.

George hasn't been in all day, he's sleeping in the shadow of the washing :-D
Betty hasn't moved, either - she's been asleep on the table all day :-|

We were looking to rehome a cat as we missed having a cat in the home after losing our 17 year old we had had from aged 7 months
We thought as we were both OAP to maybe rehome an older cat who needed a home cos owners had passed or something

No cats protection didn't have a suitable candidates

Hubby though had seen a black an white cat and he was interested

So the next day we went back and they were ??
Hubby said I like the black and white cat so can we look at him

Wel they took us to the pens and opened the door to his pen. He knew exactly what to do.!!! Wind yourself around the stick and then around the legs .
Hubby said we will take him!!

So he was two years old . Needed a new home cos his owners had been evicted and couldn't take him with them

So from June 2016 til Aug hubby was the flavour of the month even though I did the feeds and litter tray

Hubby was then hospitalised and was in hospital for seven weeks only coming home to be in a hospital bed in the lounge

Tibbs was very wary of jumping on the bed but after hubby passed Tibbs only wanted to be onthe empty bed

So now Tibbs is my best friend So much so he thinks I need feeding with live sparrows and field mice !,

:-(

Nothing like a bit of fresh mouse.

While Jacky was over the fence ,singing, this morning, one of the ones he had put under the sofa for his daddy came out so his daddy caught it with Fred's long grabber and took it outside.
