Missed that but went to BBC 4 and found a programme about medieval warfare which was fortuitous.

Yes, some houses had hot & cold running water, but the majority of the 'working classes' had an outdoor 'lav' in the 40's/50's,/60's and sh*t landlords.
That's why, as a child, I lived in caravans :-D

At least is was our 'own' (or to be precise, my parents - and my mum's abhorrence of married quarters) that led to a lack of an indoor loo and hot & cold running water - and not imposed by bad landlords :-D
