Spiders

We have big spiders in our house every day.

Our house is fairly new build and all of the central heating is fed through the internal walls rather than under the floor.
The radiators can simply be lifted off the wall as the flexi pipes feed into the wall behind them.
The holes for the pipes are much bigger than necessary and the spiders live in the walls!
If we see a small pile of dust and fluff under the radiator, we can be certain that there is a big spider has escaped and is lurking loose somewhere in the house.
Always horrible big ones.

It's daily at the moment!

David mentioned swallowing one.

I had one in my ear :-0

Now sleep with my duvet covering whichever one is uppermost :-D

The spiders are in your house 'cos there are things for them to eat. They will come back in again. What do they eat? Sweep up some house / carpet dust and have a look at it with a power lens giving 20x or better. You will discover that most homes are a zoo.

Different spiders have different ecological niches in a building. Many of the small ones you will never notice.

Sadly most people's take on spiders is something like this:

Children brought up in homes with no pets, a continuous war on fauna and too much rigour over hygiene tend not to properly develop their immune system. This can result in serious problems in later life.

I agree with Rollo(!!) I don't mind spiders at all and if possible catch them and put them out. A web by our gate has two wasps in it dead!! that has to be good!! Flies now! they're vile and everywhere!! grrr!

Some of my ancestors were buried here along with dark loving spiders

Spiders are intelligent, interesting creatures and as a minimum should be left alone to do their thing. Many have beneficial effects which include keeping the population of undesirables in a house down to a minimum without using chemicals.

Cobwebs are a better way of catching flies than pyrethrin which is quite dangerous for cats and small children.

We have loads of them too Jane. The ones with a body shaped like a musical note and long spindly legs. I've taken to putting a sheet of paper over my glass of water at night after I read that they come down for a sip in the night! :-S

OH has a big ginger one living in the back of his wing mirror on the car. It keeps building a web over it and doesn't seem put off by speed and the wind in it's hair and web. :-)

If you're in the habit of sleeping on your back with your mouth open, you'll swallow one, eventually. :-P

Filthy habits that insects have! :-D

Don't mess with the spiders in Oz. Shelob was a midget compared to some that we have :-D :-D

Don't mind the cobwebs on the passion flower by my door, it's the cuckoo spit I could do without.

I have a large laurel bush one side of my door, and a jasmine the other.
When I come out of my door, I naturally remove any cobwebs going from one bush to the other.
Daughter picked me up, the other day - I saw her arrive, so she didn't need to knock on my door, I just opened it and went out.

Daughter was in paroxysms of laughter.

Apparently, before I walk down the steps, I (outwardly) genuflect!!
(that is, get rid of cobwebs) :-|

We have taken over the use of a cold war concrete bombroof hanger..

might be bombproof, but the wild life...they have a will of their own,

cobwebs grow, insects buzz...you name it, found crickets in there the other day...sadly they get caught up in the webs...

I sure am Jane, it's those spindly ones that are taking over. Thank goodness no sign of the big field spiders it must be too warm for them. They will probably arrive when the crops are cut YUK I detest them
