How do i add a new person who is currently unconnected to anyone on my tree, but who i know is a relative.
I have records back 6 direct generations but am having trouble with siblings . Everyone gave their kids the same names.
Someone else has a similar tree . We have a common great great great great grandfather but we cant connect through other generations, if that makes sense.
I want to put in the info i have collected from many sources as a side tree then work on making the connection. How do i do this.

With difficulty - I’m not sure that you can.

GR doesn’t allow you to have more than one tree per account. What you could do is open second free one using a different email address. Create a new email address with one of the free providers such as gmail, hotmail or whatever.

If you use GR for research, do that via the paid account, download any records then upload them to your free one.

Once you’ve made a connection, if there is one, you’d have to copy everything over to the paid account, person by person.

Have you considered having a master version on your own device? There are plenty of family history programmes available, some free. Most will allow you to have unrelated individuals floating about & multiple trees. If you decide on that option, you can download a copy of your GR tree to your computer & open it with your personal FH programme. The original will remain on GR.

Or if you think you know where the person fits on the side of your tree, you can construct a line with parents called 'unknown', then fill in the details as and when you find them. Keep it simple because it's not just straightforward to delete people.

You can add the person as a child of someone on your tree then delete the parent relationship using the remove button.

Then when you find who they are really related to on your tree you can use the Find Existing button to set that person as the parent.

I tried to check that out yesterday but was foiled by the Save problem with the tree, but it worked today.
