I never read the book, but it was interesting spotting local scenes as much of the series was filmed in Pluckley, Ashford area and Folkestone.

Although I thought David Jason played the part well, I think he was mis-cast. Pop Larkin was a tall gangly chap in the book.

I saw an episode of thar where David Jason was driving a yellow ROlls Royce

and a "French" Anna Neagle had a crush on him. All good stuff :-D

I read the book as a young man and enjoyed it. I saw the story televised

and enjoyed it again. It helped reinforce the careers of David Jason and Pam Ayres

also Catherine Zeta Jones and Mr Phillips who went on to become Sgt Craddock

on Heartbeat. They did well.
