I have a huge passion flower by the front door and up the wall and across the window and coming in upstairs now.

It is so big now that I think there may be postmen and couriers tangled up in it, maybe even some Jehovah's Witnesses.

Anyway, it ha had it's usual proliferation of flowers and now the fruit are ripening nicely. I do, sometimes, pick and eat one or two passion fruit but they don't have much taste. Nevertheless, it does seem a shame to waste them.

Do you think they might make jam or chutney?

There are some lovely sounding recipes.
But it's best to ask those who've tried them.

Whilst looking, I noticed Aldi is selling passion fruit gin for £10 a bottle! :-D

I think that might be a different passion fruit, one with more flavour.

Lemon or sugar may make it more tasty.

Is it worth the bother, I ask myself.

A local restaurant used to serve homemade passion fruit curd with their scones. It was delicious.

I suppose, if you made chutney and it was 'tasteless', you could add ginger .

I have consulted the oracle, a woman I know who makes and sells jams and pickles at car boot sales and from her home.

She does have a quite complicated recipe but agrees with me that experimenting is probably the way to go.

Iy seems you can also do a jelly with them.

Let us know how you use them and if the end products taste good, Sharron

I hate waste but our passion flower only has a few fruits so I leave them alone.

Flavour strength depends on the type of pf it is, Sharron, and I have no idea of varieties, I'm afraid.

When we lived os, passionfruit icing on a plain sponge already flavoured with a little pf juice was a delish favourite. I used to strain the juice for the cake but left the seeds in when mixing the icing, but that was a personal choice - and then I would expect it was a matter of taste as much as type of fruit it was.

Also used to squeeze them over a fruit salad.

Enjoy experimenting, Sharron.

Don't I always, JoyLouise? The things OH and Fred's mate force down their throats with a look of delight etched on their faces is a wonder to behold sometimes!

I will leave them to become ripe but they never develop much in the way of flavour which is why I don't bother to eat them much..
