Thanks to the wonderful one inch type C tape although we have lost ( in body but surely not soul ) this wonderful person her musical performances will be always with us. A very high bar for the youngsters.

What made Arethra extra special is that she was one of the driving forces of the Civil Rights movements led by Martin Luther King. Her kit R.E.S.P.E.C.T.! was rooted in the movement.

She provided significant finance to and was the driving force in moving the locus of the movement from the South to Chicago. Not only talented but generous and brave.

Whilst she did indeed do a lot for the Civil Rights movement I think her version of Respect is more to do with the woman movement.
