I was wondering about that but thought she might be trying to keep quiet about it.

Joy

Are you related to Jeremy Clarkson?

Didn't he trace his ancestors back on WDYTYA and there was a Kilner jar connection?

I hate trying to convert from one measure to another thank goodness for that app on my phone!!
Add into that though we have American gallons which are different to UK :-)

These ar pukka Kilners from Wilkos.

I have tried their own but they are pretty flimsy and only fit for storage.

If I am giving jam or pickled onions to somebody they will get them in a pre-loved jam jar because I know I will never see them again.

People can get something very similar..from Wilco's I have just bought different sizes for past and pickled onions..
And they are a reasonable price.

Remember very well killner jars

Mil used to pickle Raw onions with sliced beetroot in kilner jars

She pickled the onions raw but sliced cooked beetroot that she bought uncooked and steamed

She used tthe vinegar from shop bought pickled onions . You could buy big jars of them around Christmas time

I loved them

Because I am making chutney and pickled onions (later) that I am planning to use at the village lunch I have invested in some Kilner jars which will be more suitable to put straight on the table than old jam jars.

I have never really connected with metric, believing it to be more suited to the less civilized countries across the Channel. To my great enlightenment, I found that Kilner jars are sold by the foreign capacity and by the fluid ounce so I know that a litre is thirty four fluid ounces and that now makes perfect sense. I know how much it is!

As we will now be free to deal with the States after we leave the EU, I think we start to revert to sanity as soon as possible, especially on road signs. A 1 in 15 hill is a sensible scene to picture but what on Earth is an 11% one.
