I have just found out that my brother died at the end of 2017 (not been notified by any member of the family).
How soon can I apply for his death cert.
Thanks for any advice

Sorry to hear this, even more so that you weren't notified.

If you know his dod & the registration district/county you should be able to apply. Try either the registry office where it was likely to be registered, or GRO.

His estate 'might' have gone to probate if you need the dod.

Ancestry now have many death registrations up to and including 2017,

My father in law is not listed, although he died in 2013, but my husband who died 2017 is shown.

Thanks Detective for your kind words & advice.
Thanks also to Gwyn in Kent. Have found the actual date of death for him.
Can't believe It was 15 months ago & his children couldn't let me know. We were not particularly close but his daughters were my bridesmaids.
Feeling a bit hurt at the moment.

Saddened to read your news Phyll.

Sorry for your loss, Phyll. Sad that no one notified you, did you not exchange Christmas cards? Maybe your relatives didn't have your address.

So sorry for your loss.
Maybe when you are next near where he lived you could pop over to the cemetery and place flowers .

Thanks for your condolences.

I don't know if he was buried or cremated. I don't even know if his wife is still alive. I have sent for his death cert & hope that will give me more information

Maybe everything was too stressful for them or someone thought another person had advised you. A letter may have got lost in the post.

Try to remember good, happy things about your brother. May he rest in peace.

Could you tackle it head on???

If you know an address for one of them, send a little note to say that uou have just heard about his death, and send your condolences to them.

Then add that you would like to know when exactly when it happened and if he had suffered.

Be very gentle ........ it might make them feel so bad that they will reply!!!

Similar problem with my brother, found out from him that my niece has had a baby but don't know if she got married, her husband or partner's name, where she is living, contact details or anything.

Feeling somewhat miffed.
