does anyone remember 'Scarlet Ribbons' and who that person became known as?

When I first discovered the boards, quite some time after joining in 2003 chat seemed so cliquey that I was sure everyone lived in the same street. The boards had different titles and uses then, there were some very rude people who behaved as if they owned the site and demanded that those who asked for help stayed on their computer - too much time on their hands I guess. Very off putting though, I wonder how many people gave up asking?

Needless to say I didn't bother looking in for quite a while. Then going through a difficult time I needed something fairly mindless to focus on especially if I couldn't sleep. GR boards ran round the clock then but now all's quiet by 8pm. Am I the only member who has other stuff to do during the day? :-S

I miss Wend, we met a couple of times at London meets. She gave me some of her favourite runner bean seeds - Wisley Magic - which I have grown every year since.

I loved Maddies Auntie Motie thread, it was hilarious, we wondered how we got away with some of the double entendres perhaps they went over the rr's head? Is 'Cooper' still around?

The lam cam threads were great, we all became 'experts' at knowing the signs of an imminent lambing.

The 'bike shed' was hilarious' - I'll raise you a woodbine - I know Sharron's still but where are the others?

I enjoyed evening laughs with Wend, Prickles, Mersey, Budgie etc. not forgetting Merlin and Julia bantering over woolly hats and shallots - where did 'young Master Piers' go? Sadly a few mean spirited members - who are no longer posting! - made unfair comments which rather put a damper on it for me.

Something I've never understood is how someone can quietly post and be largely ignored for months only to suddenly be incessantly picked on and in some cases hounded off the boards? What goes on in the background to cause this? Likewise, members who just can't resist being baited.

Ann, I remember the pantomime thread. It really was funny, a great spoof, as all pantomimes should be, although I'm not sure that it would pass muster today :-(

It took me a long time to join in on the various threads, as, despite all appearances to the contrary, I'm a very shy person.

My sense of humour is such that I have to know people for some time before unleashing it :-)

Sharron's posts about Fred had me in stiches and her many threads since also have the same effect.

Although we have never met, Barbra and myself have many geographical connections from when I lived in the UK :-)

Isn’t it great though to have these lovely memories and be able to talk about them? Loved the meets that I went to, Bristol twice, Webb’s Wychebold twice, Newport and Swansea.

I used to laugh so much at BC’s ‘exploits’ with Fred. And does anyone remember when we did a GR pantomime and BC was the old woman who lived in a shoe? Alan was in that one and Barbra I know. So funny.

It was on one of Hayley's posts that Daff mentioned something and I too posted, then she sent me a pm.
We realised we knew each other many years before and hadn't seen each other since I took my son to her son's first birthday party, - there was just 2 weeks between them.
That had been back in 1970s, so we had a lot of catching up, when we eventually met up.
So I have a lot to thank Madge for.

In the early days I went to several group 'meets' I think the first was in Winchester, There were others in Isle of Wight, Newport in Wales, Coventry, Nuneaton,London and Nottingham. My family, all drivers, were great at ferrying me, a non driver to these.

I had a vivid picture of BC but was never lucky enough to meet her. I liked her sense of humour, which lifted the mood of the boards.

Does anyone remember the planned Christmas visit to the West Country to meet up with Olde Crone? All imaginary, of course, but such careful planning of the route to pick up as many members and their odd offerings to the festivities., as was possible. As we were to travel by dog sleigh, there was much discussion about luggage.

Yes, mostly I miss the old days but there were some quite upsetting times too when we learned early on what trolling was all about. Never knew why they banned just John he was always one to go in with both feet until he remembered to think before he posted. I am sad that I never got to meet BC but we pm’d each other a lot and despite her own Iillnesd she helped me cope with son in laws final illness, loved her sense of humour, loved the GR pantomimes and I remember the tartan shopping trolley. Lemon Nelly is fine, see her often on face book. I suppose I miss Daf most of all, she came for lunch and we went shopping in Cheltenham and she spent an afternoon learning to use her new camera. I remember Diana as well, met her in Bristol. Do see quite a few on Facebook but somehow it is not the same as the old GR. However I have quite a few friends on here now and can still have a chuckle with them so not all bad. We were just lucky to be in at the beginning of the internet experience.

BC had a habit of sitting in peoples laps she was a terrible flirt :-D

BC, on the other hand, travelled, at her own expense, to the church fete, just to ride upon his bony knee about the stalls and attractions.

I didn't actually go to the fete and Fred never gave anything away in his life so I only have her word for it but you wouldn't lie about a thing like that would you?
