Probably the wrong time of year but they were available and I have spent money on some fruit bushes blackcurrants, lonicera (honey berries) and gooseberries.

While I was looking on the site I came upon a truffle bush. It seems you can buy either an oak or a hazel with truffle spores injected into the roots. We have a couple of hazels in the edible hedge so, if I had one, it wouldn't be out of place.

Oh, I am so toying with the idea of having one even if it probably wouldn't do the thing if I had it.

Just go for a hazel one, or two!!!

I've never heard of those, - sounds interesting.

Would you get a sow or truffle dog to help detect when the truffles are ready for harvesting?

I have plenty of time to consider the options.

They don't fruit for four to seven years.

Sounds like the sooner you get one planted, the better then...

Gives you four to seven years to train Jackie M to retrieve truffles.

It's easier for us just to visit Manjimup and buy the truffles

Sorry Sharron, I missed that.

I wouldn't be out there guarding mine in case you came round anyway.

Apparently, these are summer truffles which are lighter than black ones.

I don't even know what truffles taste like and I don't suppose I would like them anyway, I never seem to like anything a bit classy.

Sharron, I've never tasted one either. They are said to enhance the flavour, or adopt the flavour of the food they are used with.

Monosodium Glutamate, so beloved by the Chinese restaurants, does much the same thing and is probably much cheaper

I think I might have a job growing that.
