OH and I did it together.. He is a chef so he is better at the technical stuff like pie making.

It does mean that things are being used up a won't go to waste.

Used up the aubergines, made that garlic dip thing, baba ganouche. The passion fruit, blackberries last of the raspberries and the little apples that wouldn't have been much use for anything have been stewed up and are running through the sieve to make jelly. Half that squash is in the oven in a pie with some lemon curd tarts and left-over stew is warming in the microwave.

I think she has been back, if only for the day!

Have to admit to making most of my meals from scratch.
As for ordering a take away to be delivered - (rarely, and only when I have visitors who 'insist').
I could have made a meal in the time it takes them to deliver - and I live on the outskirts of a city - not the 'back of beyond'!

You've not tasted my cooking then, Florence?

At least you know what goes into your creations Sharron. No preservatives!

I'd much rather eat your creations or my own or anything home made than a ready meal from the supermarket.

I have some really fine sieves from Lidl or Aldi. Much less faff than jelly bags.

I remember making 'Hedgerow' jam a few years ago and of feeling so pleased with myself at using the free blackberries and rosehips etc. (can't remember now what the etc was). I had a nice few jars all filled and lined up and once it was set OH decided it was time for tasting and did himself a buttered crust and spread some on the top. His face was a picture as he struggled for the right words and to get all the pips out of his teeth....'a bit too much Hedge' was what he said!!

Excluding the (free) ingredients, once you've costed in fuel for cooking & the min wage of £7.38 ph labour, it probably would be cheaper to buy whatever!

On the other hand, you won't have the satisfaction of eating 'something for nothing' :-D

Today, as I was binding together all the bits in the bottom of the biscuit tin to make something else to eat and then scraping out the middles from the fruit of the passion flower on the front wall to stew with the blackberries and little apples on the tree that are not going to come to anything to make some bramble type jelly, I thought how sensible people just go to Iceland and buy ready meals.
