Last time, my Ancestry subscription was due but they didn't automatically renew and I couldn't contact them so I let it go, there was a patchwork to quilt and other things to pay for.

Looking at my credit card statement, the took the subscription out last week. I had missed it a bit so thought I would sort out the password and go into it, which I did.

I am a registered guest and need to pay them to use the site. My a***e I do!

Steaming, I looked at a way to contact them and demand instant access or my money back but, no, no indication of how to get hold of them!

They will be aware of when I do!

Numerous people are complaining on their FB page about accessing their (paid for) accounts. They've also said they've been left hanging when they call.
They tend to get a more speed result when they complain on the FB page - Ancestry don't like the negative publicity!!

Thank you. Face Book it is then.

If you're not wanting to renew, you could probably get them to cancel it w/o charging you, if you haven't been able to use it.

I did last year ... renewal date was 27 Dec, on which date the tall dude was in hospital in another city (where we'd been for Christmas until he decided to go into diabetic ketoacidosis again during Christmas dinner) and I was a bit occupied. They didn't give me any trouble.

For getting a good deal at Ancestry, don't forget the old links, which still work - these are all for the equivalent of worldwide for 12 months:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct&irpid=55537
for £89.99 (UK Premium only = £59.99)

https://www.ancestry.ca/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct&irpid=55537
for $150 CDN (might be a tiny bit less than £89.99 but basically equal)

The US one is the worst:
https://www.ancestry.com/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct&irpid=55537
$99 US / 6 months ! (£77)

... No, the Australian one is way worse:
https://www.ancestry.com.au/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct&irpid=55537
$269.88 (£153!!) (regular $450!!)
Phew, any Aussie who buys a worldwide sub at the .com.au site is getting royally ripped off.

You have to use a new email address to sign up for the deal. This can seem problematic if you have a tree at Ancestry, but as those in the know explained in an earlier discussion, you just have your old account give your new account permission to edit your tree.

Tried to renew last time but they had some problem with my credit card so I just didn't bother, other things to spend money on.

It was only when I was looking at my credit card statement today did I find they had taken out a subscription last week.

I was thinking of renewing this time but, since they have taken my money anyway, I would like to make use of their service,. Otherwise I will take my business elsewhere.

Could not have been easier.

Rang them, didn't select an option so I was put through very quickly to an lovely Irishman (my favourite) called James.
All done in a few minutes.

Glad to hear it. Have they refunded, or did you choose to reset your password?

I am getting a bit fed up with them myself. My subs are due next month, I may not renew.

A WW sub currently stand at £179.99.
I have been on auto renew since 2009.

Does anyone recall the technical issue from April?
I was locked out of my acct for the best part of a week.
Ancestry phone lines were in meltdown and they didn't respond to emails.
When they did, the response did not correlate to the question asked?

Eventually, I was promised an extra month sub would be added at renewal date.
I was notified of renewal 6 weeks in advance of the October date.
The promised month hadn't been added.

Another round of unanswered emails and telephone conversions ensued.
They had no note of it and the onus was on me to prove it.
Emails sent with the requested proof still went unanswered.

I finally spoke to the rudest person in the world who told me that it was made perfectly clear at the time that the onus was on ME to call on (not before) the renewal date to claim the extra month.
When was I told this?
She very loudly read out an email sent to me and said "SEE" it says it right there

I was absolutely furious.
She was shouting out the ONLY email that I received which clearly stated that they had no note of this on my acct and I needed to send proof.

I rang back the day before renewal and was given 2 free months which deletes the auto renew.

The call centre more or less told me to take up the half price offer when this runs out!
