I am just reading 'When the children came home' by Julie Summers, it's very interesting, some sad stories but some positive ones too

My mums elder half sister was a BHC to Canada in 1909

She did manage to make contact in the 1940's when one of her daughters came to London in the Canadian nursing corps and she traced one of her brothers and them through him the family
Sadly she didn't seee her dad as he had passed in 1939

Her treatment in Canada was awful
She was 10 years old and from Hackney in east London so no idea of farm life

She was made to help the woman of the house plus do farm work. She didn't wear shoes all the week but on a Sunday she wore ill fitting boots and had to walk behind the horse and cart that took the family to church

She married at 18 as soon as she could when she was released from servitude,Fortunately it was a good marriage

I belong the the BHC site on Facebook and do look ups for descendants of BHC children some of whom were so young when they were shipped over they didn't know parents names

They are still petitioning the Canadian government for an apology for what happened

It's very sad

An international disgrace!

It's about time they sacked those charged with sorting out the situation. Their ineptitude is mind-boggling. What are they waiting for - the deaths of those responsible so the whole blame can be laid at the door of corporate bodies?
