I know all my sister are half siblings so it won't hurt me.

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know.

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know.

My nephew paid for him and my sister to get their DNA tested - yes, they were mother and son :-D

As a child, I was a 'few shades darker' than my siblings, and our parents were going through a 'sticky' patch around about the time of my conception (1 year between my elder brothers, 2 years later my sister was born, nearly 5 years later I came along) :-S

So, I decided to get my own DNA tested. If it showed I was her half sister, it wouldn't have made any difference - our parents were only human!

Anyhoo, I am my sister's full sister, but whereas she has 3.5% Iberian, I have 9.6!!
Possibly explains the darker skin :-D

I had 4% Iberian ethnicity before Ancestry updated their estimates, now I don't seem to have any.

The good thing about the DNA results is where there is a match it can prove that your traditional research is correct. So far I have four separate branches where there is a match 4 or 5 generations back.

Now I'm getting nervous! :-0

Hope there are no skeletons in my closet that I have not already found out about! :-0

I found one of my grans in prison in 1939.
She was the single parent of 2 children - we're still not sure who the father was, but I have my suspicions.
She was in prison for going around with a bucket to 'help the destitute' - in other words - her.
When she turned 60, this same lady went around the country in her car, with another bucket - collecting for kidney research.
She won an award for the amount she collected - and (I'm pleased to say) handed over! :-D :-D

People are only human - needs (and occasionally lust) must! :-D :-D

A friend and I are researching the same surname. We met because of our common interest, but so far we can find no link between the individual lines back into the 1700s.

However

She looks more like my sister than I do, so who knows?
Perhaps we should each do a DNA test to see if there is a link.

Grandson has not sent his test away yet. We know there is English, Welsh, Scottish, Polish, South American links and possibly Chinese in the mix.
Should be an interesting result.

Before I started my family tree many decades ago
I was prepared for all sorts of things to crop up.
I feel the same about my DNA results when I receive
them, whatever will be will be.

Your reaction would be influenced by how distant you are to the unexpected anomaly. Grt grt grandparents, or even grandparents if they’re long deceased, & you might have a chuckle. To suddenly discover that you are half rather than full siblings is quite a different matter.

Only the biological mother knows who the father is, or might be.

I agree Det but at my age I cannot get upset
about things that happened years ago.
Now a younger researcher is a different thing all
together, I can see the upset that could have on them.

I have two stories in my family history that I heard continually from when I was little....

On my mother's side- that my mother's father was born in Persia as his father worked for the British Consulate. This I have proven, but I already had the photographic evidence.

The second was the BIGGY as far as I was concerned....
...That on my father's side we had descended from the Welsh Heroine, Jemima Nicholas "Jemima the Great" or "Big Jemima" (Jemima Fawr in Welsh) who apprehended French Invaders in Pembrokeshire.

There is actually no proof that she had any children (Experts in Haverfordwest Registry Office dispute that there were any children) but if my research is correct, she was my 5x Great Aunt.

If this turns out to be wrong ..... I SHALL BE GUTTED! :-(
