I have a family tree already set up but I am researching my friend's family. Can I set up a second family tree?

As Rollo implies, you can create another (free or paid) account, with different registration details.

If you don't want to pay a second set of subs, research using your paid account. If your current one includes access to records, download them to your device, then up load them to your friends tree.

You could always add your friend's parents to your tree, and build theirs that way. You'd have to initially assign one of your parents as theirs, Marry the biological parent off to their true spouse. Add your friend as their child.
