They often got it wrong Ann.

For example- My Paternal Grandmother that brought me up told me that she married her cousin. She said that her mother was surnamed N******* and married a R******, and then she was a R****** and married a N*******. I spent ages following up that idea. She had actually married the son of her second cousin, but her mother had not been a N******* at all! :-| :-| :-|

I travelled up to Scotland to the registrars in Edinburgh, what a fab place/ beautiful building...still came away empty handed, apart from finding a baby born to grandads first wifewhilst he was away at war :-0 :-0

Jem I have been able to backup my paper trail from myself via my maternal grandmother to my 4th gt grandparents (late 1700s) out to a retired vet in USA who is also a 4th gt grandchild. I had his grandfather who emigrated to USA on my tree.

You would need a million trying to solve my dilemma Emms, but thank you for offering. I might send you some docs of who I think he is..see what you come up with, cos I don’t think he really knew who he was.

I spent several years tracing my family. OH decided to do his. One evening on Scotlands people and he got back beyond his great great grandparents :-0 :-0 :-0

A lot do Jem I have Irish and Welsh stuck together but I know my 2nd gt grandparents were from Galway.

I have London and surrounding areas and Kent. My Gran's Kent family didn't go very far, but my Granddad's got about a bit.

It was through him that my mother ended up in South Wales
