Morning all , hope you are all feeling ok, the heat is getting to me now. Last night was so hot and I had difficulty getting to sleep . Got up at 6.30ish opened the windows and put the fans on.
Got a line of washing out shouldn't take long to dry in this heat.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Morning JG and everyone else looking in.

Well huge change here today. Low cloud and constant drizzle so very damp and windy too. So glad I did all my laundry yesterday!

Its still 25 degrees in every room so very stuffy but at least the rain has watered me plants so saves me a job.

Nothing exciting here today, daughter has gone to town so I'm home alone and finding it hard to think of something to do. Not in the mood for family tree stuff as my neck is sore and sitting for hours on the PC doesn't help the pain.

Just wish I could get away from the house as haven't been out in weeks and it gets you down but hey ho onwards and upwards.

have a good day all

After several hot days, here in the west of Scotland, today is cool and cloudy, with showers.

Now I can open the windows again!
During hot weather I keep them closed to stop the hot air coming in to the relatively cool house.

Andysmum Report 9 Sep 2023 12:45

It's still quite muggy here and dry at the moment.

Florence's post about washing the sheets, drying them, ironing them and remaking the bed all in one day reminded me of when we were in the tropics with a baby in towelling nappies. Each day the dripping wet nappies would be hung on the line, without hurrying, and when I reached the end I went back to the beginning and took them down!! The whole procedure took about 15 minutes. :-)

Amokavid

Amokavid Report 9 Sep 2023 13:08

Oh for the good old days of the toweling nappies.

How I loved wash day especially doing the nappies, using my Baby Burco boiler to keep them white & the mangle with a tub under it to wring them out, then hanging them on the line making sure all the nappies hung the same way with the little tags on them sitting bottom left ! LOL.

Oh, Joan, that made me smile!
I love hanging washing out to dry.
I always remember my mother showing me how to hang things on a line, long ago when I was primary school age - as you say, all nice and straight, and facing the same way.
I still do it like that.

And ironing, too. Pulling the edges straight, on things like pillowcases and handkerchiefs. Very satisfying.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Sep 2023 15:20

It’s 28 here, far too hot to be doing anything. It is so quiet and peaceful

:-)

The move happened yesterday. The removal van arrived just before nine and it took them all morning to pack everything in. They had to leave the large Barbie house and a few of the bigger toys behind as the van was full. My daughter had to take Esme to Durham this morning to get some new glasses. Not ideal timing, but as Esme is only partially sighted, she needs them. She got a new prescription from the local optician but they don’t have suitable frames. Her eyes are quite far apart and the bridge of her nose is very wide. The glasses she had were making her nose very sore. My daughter managed to track down and optician in Durham who specialises in special needs frames. It is a bit of a trek, but at least she will be comfortable. She called here on the way back and we got the Barbie house in the back of their large car and we will take everything else tomorrow

We were all shattered after yesterday, well except SIL who flitted about for most of the day pretending to work. He eventually turned up at the new house about 3pm. My daughter and I were taking turns in directing the removal men to the correct rooms as they were lbringing things off the van. She had to leave to to do the school run and bring the girls back, so I asked him to do the directing while I got the girls bedrooms sorted out. That was a big mistake as he kept wandering off and the poor removal men were having to shout for him to come back. He also told them to put the large number of boxes of books into Esme’s new play room instead of the lounge at the other end of the building. Never mind, my daughter will move them all :-|

The only contribution he made to the unpacking was to start to empty some of the kitchen boxes, but only because he wanted to find the champagne flutes, so he could open the bottle of champagne he had bought. Having unwrapped glasses, he then started putting them in a cupboard we were putting food in :-S. Luckily after I found the glasses he needed, he went away and I moved the glasses to a different cupboard. Honestly while I was dripping sweat, unpacking stuff for all I was worth, he was drifting around discussing the finer points of the champagne he had bought.

The biggest annoyance about the day was Esme’s medical bed. The council offer a service to dismantle it and move it on the day you move We we’re pleased when a man turned up about 11 am and started to dismantle it, but part way through he said that he had to leave to deal with an emergency. He said that he would arrange for someone to come later in the day. Of course despite numerous phone calls no one knew anything about it. Luckily they have a very large car, so SIL and OH managed to get the heavy mattress in that, so that Esme could at least sleep on the floor. By late afternoon we finally got someone sensible on the phone who said that she didn’t know if she could get someone to come that evening, could they leave it until Monday? My daughter was so fed up by then that she said yes. Not an ideal situation as Esme needs to be tilted because of her reflux. I can’t believe that the man just went off, what would have happened if it had been a normal move where you leave the house and the next family move in?

I managed to get both of the girls bedrooms set up as best I could before they got back from school. I especially wanted to do my best with Eve’s room so she had her own domain to go to with the bed made and the box of her most important things unpacked.

We didn’t get home until about 9 pm and I was aching all over. We are just pottering today to recover. We are going tomorrow so OH can build the trampoline and large play swing in the garden and do numerous other jobs. I am leaving this house for a few days, then I need to deep clean every room and move all of our things back to their correct places. Looking round I can see that we need to have the whole house repainted, that will cost a fortune no doubt.

Oh LInda, I am out of breath reading your last thread entry, what a day you had, I reckon your son in law should get back to yout house as soon as & help you & your hubby to get your home back in order.
They are sooo going to miss you & hubby but especially you deserve medals.

At last the sun has gone in here, what a hot day & no breeze.
I did venture outside to tackle a couple of large Ferns that have become too big, we have 7 Ferns dotted about but 2 of them were starting to encroach on other plants.
I managed to cut them down as far as the dead strawy growth underneath where the fresh fronds emerge but they could do to have a bit more top growth removed.
They will come back next year but hopefully they won't be a high as they were this year.

That's all I did in the garden today other than watering the newest plants this morning.

Oh Linda <3 i too am exhausted reading your post. You and OH really deserve a medal and as for SIL....words fail me :-(

Its been raining here all day and foggy so cooped up inside. Made a small chicken curry for me tea, naan and tzatziki and rice of course.

Started knitting a chunky bobble hat, its awhile since I did one so had to google a pattern.
Argyll Gran, I iron everything and love doing pillowcases, very therapeutic.

And yes, when i hang out my washing, its colour coded and all hung the same way.

Whites on one line, pink on another and darks on another :-D :-D Thats the bit of OCD in me lol

best see to finishing off tea now and pop on the oven

Good morning, I hope everyone is well. We had a nice thunderstorm last night and lots of rain which the garden will be thankful for It looks like we have a very high chance of rain from the middle of the day as well, so we will go to reassemble the play equipment this morning. I am sure that there will be plenty of boxes to empty after that.

Florence61 Report 10 Sep 2023 10:47

Morning all
Flat calm here and quite cool now at 14 degrees, looking very autumnal.

Thankfully no thunderstorms here, wasn't hot enough lol.

I started knitting a beanie hat for someone but had to google the decreasing bit as couldn't remember. But i found a free pattern on google and a much easier way to sew up the seams using " mattress stitch", giving a much neater finish.

I also have 2 scarves on the go. Well I needed something to keep me occupied!

Hope you have a good day Linda and get the girls playthings sorted!

Not sure about tea today as last night I made a curry with grated carrots, chicken & mushrooms and it was very tasty but i'm still full up. So something lighter tonight.

Hope everyone looking in is well and ok

Good morning.
The day started off with thick fog & coolish but by 10-00am it was gone & the sun is now shining & it has started to warm up.
Looks like it's going to be "hot" once again !

I think I have chosen the wrong meal, again, lol, hubby fancied chicken & so we settled on Chicken & all the trimmings, lol.
With hubby not in the best of health I tend to cook the things that he fancies & so we usually end up with meals that are not really suitable for the really hot days, but if it is what hubby wants & helps him to eat better then so be it.

I hope all is well with everyone, take care Linda, it's time to wind down.

Aw Joan , bless you for putting hubby first. Yes a roast in hot in hot weather isnt great but if he eats all of it, it will help to build his strength up and thats what matters isnt it.

Its started raining now but thats ok and not going outside today and as you said linda, no need to water all me pots which takes ages.

I saw 5 swans yesterday on the water and was a lovely sight as havent seen them in ages. Glad the bird flu hasnt got to them.

Just remembered I have to finish off me Tesco list, how could I forget? lol

Off to make some toast for lunch and then try and be proactive this afternoon!

It has been incredibly humid here and about 25 degrees. This morning, I helped OH to reassemble the play equipment. Eve was almost on the trampoline before we had finished it. :-)

I then went on box duty. I got all Esme’s clothes put away and the rest of Eve’s The house they have bought is a barn conversion and the bedrooms were unbearably hot, but it had to be done. I also had to play with Esme and keep her occupied.

I am shattered again and glad to be home.My daughter has taken the next two days off, but SIL hasn’t :-S Anyway we are leaving them to it now.

There is just Esme’s bed to go now, that should be tomorrow. I have quite a few things to give away on the local Facebook sites, three stair gates, Eve’s bike which she has outgrown, a baby monitor and so on.

I can start on cleaning and reorganising the house then. All of the rooms look so spacious now that all of their stuff has gone. I am looking at one of Esme’s sticky hand prints on the patio door and feel sad about having to clean it off

Florence61 Report 11 Sep 2023 11:16

Morning all.

There was a beautiful double rainbow when I opened the kitchen blind this morning. So vivid and bright, was amazing.

Showery and overcast and so much cooler now at 12 degrees.

Sometime between Fri & Saturday, a strange thing happened. A wheel trim appeared in the middle of one of my parking bays :-S :-S

I looked up the logo in the middle and it belongs to a Renault of some kind. As we have our own service rd away from the main road, I'm struggling to understand how it came to be where it is?? Unless someone was driving quite fast, went over a bump and the wheel trim was loose and therefore sprung off and was flung into our garden?

So I have left it on our parking bay as it is very greasy! I went to pick it up and my fingers got covered in black yukky stuff.

Anyway, the ironing basket is awaiting me as yesterday, I had a very lazy day and did absolutely nothing. I just felt like sitting, knitting and surfing the net with no enthusiasm to do anything that required energy :-D :-D

However after a hot shower today, my energy levels have been restored and so I'm off to do all me chores and a few bits of paperwork.

Hope everyone well and cooling down today.

You will have to keep a look out for a Renault car missing a wheel trim

I have started the deep clean of the house. I have only done two bedrooms so far, but have taken everything out of the fitted wardrobes and got rid of a huge amount of stuff. I will continue tomorrow, I am going to do every room in the house and have a brutal cull of all our belongings.
I advertised four things on the free Facebook site and they were snapped up. I still have lots more to give away tomorrow

Florence61

Florence61 Report 11 Sep 2023 21:11

Well done Linda. Im sure all your things you want rid of will sell quickly.

Before I moved here, we had to downsize a lot and we sold masses and made several hundred pounds which went towards my new cooker and fridge freezer.

Im at the stage now, where I have only a few storage boxes with things I want to keep, all my college assessments and a box of postcards from family members from the 70's til now.

Daughter has left and gone elsewhere until Friday so is very quiet here tonight and place seems so empty.

But tomorrow, I have some birthday bunting to make for Sunday and that will keep me busy. I have a template of a triangle in thick card which i will make a dozen. Then i shall cover them with birthday paper, hole punch and thread ribbon to join them. On late Saturday eve, I shall hang the bunting up in the kitchen with ribbons.

I am going to make her a birthday cake and decorate it on Sunday and make a buffet tea. Ive put extra treats on the shopping coming on Saturday.

The Beanie hat is half done, so should finish that in a day or 2.

Right coffee time now.

Hope everyone ok and well.

Good luck with your sales for tomorrow Linda

I am not selling the things Florence, just giving them away. I suppose I could sell them, but I never do.

Today I have given away, a computer monitor, a baby monitoring alarm, a laundry basket, a pile of disposable bbq’s, a bookcase and a Little Tykes car. Plus I donated Eve’s almost unused bike to the local community works, who check them over and donate them to worthy children.
Tomorrow I have a car seat and two stair gates to give away.plus I have quite a lot of stuff to take to the charity shop. I took three sack fulls of toys last week as well.

It will be a lovely surprise for your daughter Florence, it shouldn’t just be little children who have fun birthdays.
