DVLA REMINDER: Once you hit 70 you need to follow these rules
Recent figures show that there are around 1o million motorists on the road aged 70 or above in the UK.
The Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) is reminding elderly drivers that they have to renew their driving licence with them every three years when they hit the milestone age. And failure to follow these rules is a serious offence that can lead to a massive £1,000 fine.
Any motorist who does not renew their licence after they have turned 70 will immediately no longer be legally able to operate a vehicle. To ensure that this doesn't happen, the DVLA sends people a D46P application form to their registered address around 90 days before they turn 70.
copies of the form can also be picked up from Post Offices if you do not receive one via the post. Online forms will also be available on the DVLA website in the 90 day period before a person's 70th birthday.
"It’s easy, quick and secure to do it online."
All a driver needs to renew efficiently is an email address, the address of where they have lived for the last three years, their National Insurance number and a valid UK passport number in instances where they want to change their licence photo. People are still allowed to drive while their licence is being renewed as long as they make sure they stick to a number of rules

once you are in its no problem

you get a reminder, and basically all you need to do is confirm you are physically and mentally able to drive...don't even need to send a new photo, once they have a digital photo on file...
