Quite remarkable, once you stop laughing and think of the potential consequences.

Well, that was transported securely (not!)
Did they transport it loose in a canvas covered pick up truck?

I've been following this story since it was reported missing.

How can you lose something so potentially lethal and not know where or when?
:-S :-S

Gives new meaning to the old phrase, 'It fell off the back of a truck'

In this case it did, literally, do that.

The capsule containing the material was placed in a wooden crate which was bolted on to a truck. During the trip to Perth the bolts became loose causing vibration of the crate which, presumably caused the door to open.

The roads up in the North are in a pretty poor condition with many unsealed sections so it is a possibility. However I would have thought that a stop somewhere along the road would have been required and it could have been checked then.

The capsule was only found to be missing when the vehicle reached Perth. It was three days before Authorities were notified and another few days before old Joe Public was made aware! :-|

The mining company involved have offered to pay for the recovery operation, which no doubt is an offer that will be taken up.

Mind you, this is the same company that merrily blasted away Aboriginal rock paintings which had been dated back to 46,000 years ago, so they do have to try to maintain some credibility!
