If you order a cheese sandwich in a cafe you will get two halves on a plate.

Ah yes names, you are correct because when you have afternoon tea out and they cut up the sandwiches into quarters, that would be a round wouldn't it?

Well done ty for that

If I make a plate of sandwiches and cut them into halves, or quarters, then offer them to someone, I usually say "have a sandwich". I don't expect them to take two, or four, at once! :-)

So I think the answer to your question is two.

So when you make a sandwich with 2 slices of bread and cut it in half, is it still a sandwich or 2 sandwiches?
