It's not easy, sometimes, finding information from our 'elders'.
My dad (no father's name on birth certificate) asked my gran who his dad was - 'Juarez' was her answer.
Having (through DNA) found out who his dad was - (the man we thought) - I can only presume my gran drank a lot of port! She was 18 when my dad was born - his father was 38, married, and had children.

Having watched 'Who Do You Think You Are' tonight, I realise I know quite a bit about my ancestors!

Yes, like Paddy McGuinness, I also have an ancestor conceived between lodger (Doutch) in a census, and landlady - a widow surname Evans - out of 'wedlock'.
This g x quite a few grandmothers was christened Mary Doutch Evans a year or so after the census :-D

When my mum's mum went into a home, I ended up with the love letters between my gran and my grandad (who was a widower when he started courting gran)
I refused to read them until after gran had died.
Yes, she was human (when I read the letters - ooo-err missus!) .
But when she was alive, I only knew her as my elderly gran.

Mind you, when my sister and I took her out for the occasional pub meal, after a couple of pints, we saw a different side to her! :-D :-D :-D :-0 :-0

When I realise how much information I have on my Mums side with very little help from her or anyone else, well I just pat myself on the back and say well done me. :-D
