Annx,I sympathise. I was jabbed in a vein with the anaesthetic, became very unwell a couple of days later. BP through the roof, took about 10 weeks to get myselfback to normal and now have to have an old fashioned jab now,

I'm the same as you Maggie! I have to do one of those week's checks sometimes. After a bad experience at the dentist's last time after a reaction to the anaesthetic with my meds, I dread to think what it would be after!

Mine is raised at the doctors, let alone the dentist! :-S

I was interested to read that in the trials only a few people had high BP. Judging from the comments on here everyody should have had sky-high readings!!

I suppose it's trying to do the right thing and might catch a few people who had no idea they had high BP.

I thought I had posted.

I hadn’t spotted the article in MoL when I read it earlier.

Yes Vera ours does too. Thanks for putting Names in the picture, sorry laziness on my part.

MOL is Mail Online, Names

Our pharmacist routinely offers bp tests. I think that’s a better idea as people aren’t usually stressed if they are just popping into the chemist’s shop for something.

Just found this ( and good luck finding an NHS dentist ;-))

I've just come back from the dentist :-D

Just a small replacement filling but it's even more stressful when it's your first visit to a new practice. Plus I hate laying practically flat which seems the norm these days. However she was very good and very gentle. My blood pressure would be raised too.

Visits to the dentist have caused such stress in the past, that I have almost fainted, so I dread to think what my readings would be :-0.

This has not been due to anything they did, but rather the tension I had built up before hand.
Strangely, when I had to have major dental work done on roots at hospital, I coped better :-S

:-S MOL?

:-S an optician can see if you have high blood pressure during the exam.

Yes mine would be up at the dentists and probably at the opticians as well ( my specs are very expensive and I have difficulty finding someone able to to make up my high strength lenses.

Agreed Ann. It could take a while for it to come down ;-) :-D

by dentists and opticians, to help to reduce the possibility of strokes etc. Dentists and opticians to take blood pressure.
I can guarantee that every time my BP is taken at the dentist it will not be a true reading.
