Thanks Mr M :-)

I found my father and his parents easily. It took me ages on FMP as the surname had been badly mistranscribed :-0

ArgyllGran
I couldn't see a particular place to click to search, so just filled in the name I wanted to see and filled in 1921 in the date option.

Thanks, Gwyn - yes, I see now that the 1921 census is listed among 1920s census and ER options on the census search page, although not yet in the list of censuses on the home page.

It's there under "Search all records" when England 1921 census comes up top right of the page i'm looking at

OR under Card Catalogue" when you get the choice of 1921 for England of Wales or channel Islands or Isle of Man as the top 4 results.

Under "Census and electoral rolls" you need to scroll to the bottom of the list of data collections to get the 1921 options

I am unable to find my Grandmother on it, she had my Mum 1923, am I missing something?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 7 Jan 2025 16:47

Without more details, ZZzzz, it's impossible to say.
Have you considered that her name might be mistranscribed or mis-spelled?

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 7 Jan 2025 17:26

Have you checked the marriage date with the actual date of the census?
Have you looked for both her married name and her maiden name?

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 7 Jan 2025 17:45

nameslessone. my Grandmother was unmarried when she had my Mum, well I haven't found a marriage for her, also there is no Father on Mums birth cert, all she ever said is that he was a business from Reading, she and my Grandmother were both born in Newcastle England.
Business man. DOH.

It would appear that Ancestry are using FMP transcriptions so the errors will be the same.
I think the transcriptions were done abroad probably an Asian country.

The handwriting is your ancestors so you have to blame them ;-)

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 8 Jan 2025 13:40

Wow thank you that is my lot, but where it says G B R Nelson, the R should be a B, she is my great Aunt.

MR MAGOO I blame them anyway. :-D

greyghost

greyghost Report 8 Jan 2025 19:16

Looking at the original document -

The transcriber has written what they think they can see. Personally I would say that the middle initial is a B and to my eyes the 3rd initial looks very much the same so I would have transcribed as GBB BUT I can perhaps see why it was transcribed as an R.

You can try putting in a correction, but don't know if FMP would accept that as they have to be 100% sure of the validity.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 8 Jan 2025 19:53

I've submitted a correction on Ancestry, supported by the birth reg:

NELSON, GEORGINA BEATRICE BAINBRIDGE mmn SNOWDON
GRO Reference: 1899 S Quarter in NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE Volume 10B Page 75

Don't have a sub to FMP.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 8 Jan 2025 21:38

Yes she is Georgina Beatrice Bainbridge Nelson, thanks all.
