Very confusing. I really think some of these designers should spend a day as a pedestrian. Why have a leaf pattern for the crossings? We all recognise a zebra crossing. How are young children supposed to manage going to and from school?

This was on JV earlier this week. He was explaining the reason behind it, apparently the idea is to get the cars to slow down and look at the design, thus creating a slower transition around the roundabout. But I reckon it is an accident waiting to happen.

However it gave JV an opportunity to scatter leaves on the studio floor and show how the cars should approach the roundabout :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0

If they look at the design they will not be watching other cars :-|. Damn silly idea in my opinion as they should see some of the driving standards around here :-D

There seem to be more and more peculiar road marking and roundabouts turning up.

The thought of coming across one of them is frightening. It is probably OK if you know them - but if you are a stranger - then heaven help you.

And councils complain they have no money :-S

Stop wasting it then on stupid ideas that are not necessary :-P

Many years ago someone complained about the " piss poor " roads around here, some took exception and literally pissed on the roads, made me chuckle.

I don't drive, but even as a pedestrian, I'd feel unsafe trying to cross that junction :-0

These 'artistic' features tend to bring more problems than solve them.

Several years ago, Ashford in Kent embarked on updating a road scheme.
They gathered together many of the road signs that had stood alongside the old road and an artist displayed them all grouped together as a feature on one of the new approach roads.
Major confusion, as road users wondered which sign applied to them :-|
Needless to say, this expensive artwork soon had to be demolished for safety reasons.

Knowing I have a journey to do in a few weeks I keep imagining a route with many roundabouts all different designs and different rules.

What a waste of money!

I wonder how many potholes could have been filled in with the money and time wasted on this.

I see they are building more of these roundabouts. I think the next one is in Chichester. I think I have got the right location.

At least that one has proper striped zebra crossings and no leaves painted all over the place. I also noted that it is the third Dutch-style roundabout and the one I put in the OP is not one of he other two.
