Hi Ginny Thank you for giving such interesting background. It is so well written and produced. Such a treat these days to have something of this quality on the box. Am researching a close friend's tree. He comes from Liverpool and is loving the series too. Will pm for photos for him. Hope a second series comes off. Liz |

Lol Ginny - I had to ask though ........ how romantic if if he leaves his faith for Iris ...... Now was Dadda Irish? and as a protestant he no doubt wasn't from the South :) ( I think the King Willy & the white horse episode gave that one away lol ) I'm English living in Ulster so I just LOVED that episode........... Dadda was such a proud man. I too hope that there is a second series...........it so enjoyable. Much happiness Debi -x- |

Last night's episode was great - full of action and emotion. Two or three romances seemed to be starting but came to an abrupt end, especially Dadda's, and didn't he lay into his Lilies when he flipped! Wonder where he's wandered off to? We'll have to wait and see. And whether or not May's unborn baby was affected by the beating. |

Ginny you are from a very special family ..so loving and caring. My husband and I have not been out on a Friday since episode one!!! we dont want to record it, as it would mean we have to wait another day to see it, 7 days between is already far too long. I too hope there will be another series. I would be honoured to see a copy of the real lillies if you would mind sending me the picture. very grateful to you and your family Val |

Great series. Was talking to my mum about the talley man last week - we all thought he was a debt collector- how wrong we were !! Heard the expression 'quitlt' - reminded me about my grandad calling his brothers boss this - and he was right!! My Nan was born about the same time as the girls and although the family circumstances were slightly differerant I can relate to the story. The horse and the Lodge made me laugh even though it was serious - God help us if we had crossed the road when the parade was passing by !!. Liverpool and Southport was brought to a halt on 12th July - still is to a certain extent. So realistic - congratulations to the researchers and all involved. No doubt Granada and Genes are doing OK out of this!! Libby x |

Hi Ginny, Hope your reading all the messages again, especially after Friday's episode. This series has really given me an insight into family life in Liverpool, during that era, especially the Irish and other nationals. Did it ever mention what area the family were from, and what church the Priest was assigned to. My father's family are all from Liverpool, and originated from Ireland too. Great series as I mentioned before, and can't praise it enough. Trish xx |

Ginny, what a great series! as i am from liverpool its great trying to identify the landmarks, Trish i believe its set in Garston, near to speke, and although the houses look real its supposed to be a set, which is unfortunate as there are plenty of those houses still left,(expecially in the Welsh named streets) I identified the Seamans Orphanage in Newsham Park, which is abandonded now but still beautiful, and the flat that Mr Brazendale rented looked around Catherine St, Ginny Tell Heidi we need more episodes and well done!! Is this a 'set'? I have wondered about this because the are no satelite dishes. LOL. Street scenes always seem to be from the same angle !!. Must be difficult. I know it is supposed to be set in Garston but is this really the case? - just being a nosey bag!! Liverpool is full of historic buildings including full streets of terraced houses, not including the courts thank God !! Most of us have probably got ancestors from Irish decent apart from me LOL - mine is from Scotland and Southampton - but the expressions live on. Libby x |

Yes it has been a great series. It just shows how our values have changed. When they kissed it meant they were 'going out' nowadays if there is a kiss the next scene they are jumping into bed with each other. Makes a very nice cahnge to watch something without any rampant sex scenes even though there is a pregnancy. |

Dorothy, very briefly, Dadda had a romance going with the school teacher. He thought his daughters would like her but they thought he was betraying their mother's memory so he gave her up. May was going out with Frank just to have a bit of fun before anyone else saw she was expecting. Frank wanted to marry her. She met up agsin with Mr Brazendale who wanted her to love the baby and wanted his name on the birth certificate. may spelt out for him what having a' bastard 'child meant. She told dadda about the baby and he went mad, took off his belt and hit May. Her two sisters tried to protect her and were also beaten. Dadda walked off into the night. |
