Ginny first of all can i say just seen your thread. Such a wonderful series what a wonderful family you are part of no wonder you are proud quite rightly so . I found out through Genes all my Mothers family were Irish settled in Liverpool four generations at least so it has helped me to identify a lot and learn. Hope lilys goes from strength to strength. June xx

Deborah - that would be telling lol but the priest's family died when he was young so he is attracted by the closeness of the family. The storyline of Dadda being a protestant is true - in real life he used to make the priest stand on a piece of newspaper when he came to the house to show his distain for the catholic church - however he loved his wife who was a catholic and kept his promise that the girls would be raised in the faith but he would never set foot in a catholic church.(Fact is stranger than fiction lol)

oh how lovely . Lovely that the actresses placed flowers and lovelier that the sisters were so very loyal ........ what a wonderful family to be part of Ginny. I know you say it's loosely baised on you Gran & her sisters - but has the priest got a 'thing' for Iris? lol

Ginny

Ginny Report 17 Feb 2007 22:26

Deborah it IS true. the sisters were buried together in Liverpool - they all married and had children but kept to their pledge and were buried together. At the end of the filming the 3 actresses who played the sisters went to the grave and put flowers there - it was very touching.

Ginny its FANTASTIC and rightly so you should be proud. Now I read somewhere that the 3 sisters were so close that they are all buried together in one grave - is this so? Much happiness Debi

Little Lost

Little Lost Report 17 Feb 2007 22:03

yes it is a lovely little series. I think the priest is a bit on the young side as I always imagined them to have been older back then. If that makes sense lol

Right, gotcha! I'll have an additional reason to watch the next two; the arrival of your mum or dad (?), unless something dreadful happens!

There is a bit of dramatic license and the 3 sisters are based very losely on my grandmother and her sisters - see my reply to Brian.

By the way incase anyone is interested pm me and I can send you a pic of the real Lilies taken in 1924. (Sorry if I am blowing the trumpet of my family but I am extremely proud)

Ginny Report 17 Feb 2007 21:42

Millie it was the 6th of 8 episodes but the whole series will shortly be released on DVD. The BBC wanted to see how it went before commissioning a second series but it has proved to be very popular so we are hoping for a second series. Glad that you enjoyed it. Ruby, May and Iris are based on my grandmother and her sisters.

Brian Report 17 Feb 2007 21:39

Ginny, I'm slightly puzzled! OK so the sister employed by a wealthy man I know was May, but his wife wasn't an invalid, she was unable to concieve - she went away for a while and in yesterday's episode was walking around; or does this show up in next week's episode, i.e. does May get a new job with another wealthy couple?
