Hi Carol, normally i never unticked the box and it was always left, so whoever i got in touch with had access to my tree, but this time this female never even sent me a message back saying that there might be a link between us or nothing....i forgot all about the message, thinking it was just going to be another dead end message, but then a contact on here got in touch with me on another site and told me that this female had came up in her Hot Matches having my name, my kids, the fathers etc etc....even down to all my cousins that were'nt even connected to the person i was asking about in the first place. So now i tend to try and remember to make sure the box is'nt ticked when i get in touch with someone for the first time. I have come across some very good contacts on here, and thankfully i have been able to help people that have the same rellies as me. Its just taken this one person thats made me look at things slightly differently now. CAZ

Thanks Liz, i was aware that you could hide the info for living rellies.....my problem was i forgot to UNTICK the 'allow member to view tree' when i sent her a message about a rellie when she popped up in my 'Hot Matches'. I dont mind the deatils of my living rellies showing or being shared.....IF they ask permission. Thank You CAZ

I usualy untick box on first contact, but once I have allowed access, I am quite happy for them to re-use the information I have gathered. Why would anyone want to just 'look' at another persons tree? By allowing them access, I hope that we can share any new information, that any of us find. For instance I have just been given a copy of one of my (brick wall) lines back to 1400. (from another genealogy site). I quickly filled it in on my GR tree & emailed my contacts that were also stuck on that person. We can now all concentrate on the other brickwalls.

I've just sent Genes another message giving them dates of when i sent them emails and when they replied....and mostly...WHY are the names STILL in her tree. CAZ

Yeah i think a reminder is needed, its been nearly 3 weeks since i sent them the list. I do appreciate that they have other things to do.....like collect my this years membership on time !!!!!, they did'nt forget that bleeder...pmsl

Caz, They went a day or so after I gave them the list of details. However, I did have to jog their memory! Maybe a little polite reminder may help..........

Hi Tony, im glad you got it sorted, how long did it take for Genes to delete the names. I sent them the list on 8th of this month, nearly 3 weeks ago and the names are still in her tree. CAZ

Caz, Had exactly this problem a few weeks ago. Although I had allowed access to my tree, no permission had been sought to include my living relatives. I sent a polite pm asking that they be removed, and after two days I had not received a response. I then contacted GR, and like you, I was asked for names and dates of birth. GR removed the names etc and advised the members of the rules within a day or so. Hope it resolves itself. Tony

Hi Sue, i've never had a problem with people taking any name from my tree, my children and hubby included, but i just dont like it when this person has taken a huge list of names dead and alive without even sending me a message at all or asking. I know a lot of people dont put names and dates for living rellies but im okay with putting the names down and i have got permission from all the living rellies to do so. Its just annoyed me that Genes have'nt deleted the names from her tree or even got back to me since i emailed them the list that they asked for. CAZ

I don't include my childrens names on the tree. I just put Girl or Boy .........surname and birth year. I think thats enough, same with other living rellies.

JESS, this female never asked if they could take the info from my tree so i NEVER GAVE them the names in the first place, she never even sent me a message from my first one asking about a rellie that popped up in my Hot Matches....she just took all the names from my tree and it was only when i sent her a message when someone informed me that she had these names in he rtree that she had the nerve to send me ONE message and then it was saying that she THINKS we have a match...THINKS !!!!! so why take 85 living rellies names from my tree and like i say, that aint including the dead rellies.

Oh Caz that's totally out of order. Never had it done to me thankgod-but I can imagine how very annoyed you must be.I would be too. I found a rellie on here and we viewed trees-I asked him first if I could copy some of the names and said it was ok and thanked me for asking first. Of course I let him take some from me. It dosen't look good on GR doing nothing about it. good luck catherine xx

I dont understand how someone can be said to have stolen something you gave them?

LOL.....yes i have, but what makes me laugh is that she altered some of the info, she has spelt my edlest boys name wrong, i spell it ashleE and she has put ashleY, obviously i dont know how to spell my own sons name, but she has also changed some of the birth years and even a father on one of my rellies..........CAZ

I hope you have now cancelled her access to your tree! reg
