How did you find out surname of Herbert was Hallsworth? Why didn't they suggest that Dawson, given as a middle name, might have been the father's surname? |

I was disapointed last night as well, Barbara Windsor was far more interesting. Why cant they do a programme where they look for Joe Publics family history I mean that would be far more interesting. |

just looked on the BBC TV and there is further info on Roberts family - he or his family must have thought it was a bit risky, and did not want their laundry aired on national television.. Lin |

yes its all done for the camera,s, and not as easy as it looks on tv, we dont have a team looking for us ,it would cost to much, and its not on long enough,i agree, we all picked up on the gun, and babs, with her do,s. maybe in time we will get a program on genealogy,as millions of us are interested in finding our roots. regards jean |

i to thought how bogus it was for the programe to say you would not be able to find his Uncle, with just a birth entrie, i thought this was about showing people, not puting them of at the first hurdle, i have always though these programs were rubish, on another note, i always belived that the gro backlog had little to do with the second series, more likely the free searchable index on Ancestry, that would have cost thousands at 1837, well there was nobody hardly in my local studies library during the second series and backlog time, different story first series, although most only came once took one look at the time needed to trawl micro fisch, and never came back, and i have been to my local studies library most days since the start of this third series and it is empty, never seen it so dead, so as i say the gro back log was not caused by the programe and will not create one now, unless people start ordering lots thinking, their will be a backlog, thus them creating it not the tv progranne |

Yes Lin, I was a bit disappointed that we did not have more history on the family, going back further, like with others in the series - perhaps they thought that there was enough content, with the history of WW1......I was interested in the naval part as my Grandfather was a sailor in WW1... I love the series, and the best one for me was Bill Oddie in the last one, who found that he had so many misconceptions about his mother.....quite sad really...... |

A shame that the program was more on the history of the WW! and not on Roberts family. Lin |

Where abouts in Lincolnshire did he die?? buried?? I to get annoyed with all the easiness of it all.Strange coincidence him finding one of the graves on the same day that she was buried. Just shows how old the programme is then as it was 20th June. I am still trying to find out details of one of my lot that went into a workhouse. Barbara Windsor got to look at the entry register to see the address from where hers came from but I cant get any details on mine. |

If you look at the BBC website page on it, it gives a bit more info into further back on his gran Hannah's family that wasn't included on the programme. Is it just me or do the celebrities sometimes seem a bit dumb sometimes - like tonight 'Wow, this is my grandfathers gun' - no its the same type of gun that he probably used.... And not to mention poor old Babs and her toy boy hubby and their 'oh was her maiden name Do?' when looking at the censuses... sometimes it makes me want to slap my forehead in disbelief... Lets hope the others might be a bit better! Alex |

The first couple of times I went to see the local superintendent registrar here, she let me look at the original registers, alongside her. I didn't realise it wasn't normal procedure - but it was a long time ago, before genealogy became so popular. Jay |

If a lead proves uninteresting or too lengthy to follow up it wouldn't be suitable for the programme which after all is only an hour |

I can't believe they would give us the details of Herbert's birth without checking first whether he was still alive. They probably traced his family and cleared it with them before including it in the programme. Just didn't divulge it to us mere mortals. Suzy |

Does anyone else find the programme frustrating and start muttering under their breath while watching it? Since when has a visit to Kew - of all places- been THAT easy??!! PLUS he got to see the original records. Janice |
