I used to live in New Addington ( another supposedly bad place) so went to Croydon regularly.Worked in Top Rank then Ladbrokes. Last time I went to Croydon I didn't recognise it, certainly wouldn't want to live there now.Does anyone remember the original Grants, I loved shopping there and Allders. My daughter lived on Roundshaw and never had a problem with it. |

During the early 50's the Orchid was an ice rink. Late 50's the lads and I frequented the ballroom as it had become. |

Hi Donna just realised you may have meant Crystal Palace the PLACE rather than the footie club! Allie |

We moved to the island in '76 - it is all a distant memory now! However, can't get away from following the 'fortunes ' of CPFC. Allie |

Wasn't Kennards fantastic! There was a sort of alleyway with little 'shops' doing things like shoe repairs etc. What about the Civic Hall anyone? It was next to Allders or Kennards. We used to do our dancing shows there. My Dance school was Joan Rodney Deane's, at Prince's Road, Selhurst. Oh Croydon, Croydon....... Allie ps please keep nudged as this is bringing SO much pleasure to SO many! |

Blinky flip! I used to meet my girlfriends for coffee at Allders. I bought my pet guinea pig at Kennards. And I saw Mary Poppins at the Astoria. Hey ho! |

Thanks for that Bryan. So many links with the area - went to our dancing school in Prince's Road (near Selhurst Station) and my grandparents lived in Gloucester Road just a bit further down Selhurst Road. Cheers Allie |

I lived in Addiscombe and went to Lady Edridge GS for girls. It was next to the Crystal Palace football ground and we could watch the players practising from our science lab - the high stools helped. No wonder i'm so useless at science! Shame it is all demolished now - I still have dreams about being there! Allie |

SIghing at happy memories of Saturdays spent shopping in the Whitgift Centre ................ Had my Saturday job during school at Allders - that was a fab store shame about their demise. Anyone remember the Greyhound Pub opposite Streatham Common ??? I lived at the bottom end of Greyhound Lane bordering on Norbury and Mitcham :O)) Went to school at Lonesome Road Primary & Junior - Gorringe Park Middle School near Figgs Marsh and Rowan Road High for GIrls - which has now been demolished to make way for a housing estate :O(( It's nice to see so many other people with connections and memories of the areas xxx |

Alos has posh new library/community centre/gym Looks nice now, but once an estate has a name then it will always make certain peoples toes curl LOL Think you did the right thing moving out, wish I cold... would give my right arm to escape from this area :-( |

As i said earlier Shelli, I haven't been to Croydon for around 15 years, I used to live in Brixton and work in Croydon, I loved shopping in the Whitgift Centre and Debenhams. A friend used to live on the Rounshaw Estate in the early 80's....even then it was seen as a very undisirable place to live, I heared that the estate was knocked down quite a few years ago. My friend now lives in Hackbridge and I live in Hertfordshire |
