That sounded wonderful CB. I'm so glad you all enjoyed it and that Gaynor had a wonderful day. You did'nt mention the flowers from her Canadian friends. I toasted her in sparkling water! Well nearly Champagne ! Deanna XX |

C.B. How eloquently put. It really was a very special day. Wait until you see the photos of Lynda and her Argentinian. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink : know what I mean)., Jean x. P.S. We all know now what a Scotsman wears under his kilt. |

Sorry, folks! The flowers from Canada were beautiful and Gaynor appreciated them very much. Unfortunately I'd paid a visit to the 'powder room' when they were presented, so I missed that! I didn't see the limo either (being 'umble and arriving by bus), but (I was hoping, ahem, modestly, not to have to mention this) I DID see the thongs and the strippers (all male, I should add) who also added to the fun. As I said, photos will no doubt appear in due course from people with better cameras than mine! I'm sure there will be lots more reports of details I missed. There was so much going on at once, it was hard to talk, eat, take photos, drink and watch everything at the same time! To all who couldn't be there, you MUST come to the next one! CB >|< X |

Well, it all went off marvellously. Most of us met up at Victoria and trooped off in a line to the pub. Bit squashed up in one corner when all of us arrived to find several more of our party quietly waiting for us with our Guest of Honour, the lovely, amazing Gaynor. There she was, looking beautiful and radiant, and thoroughly enjoying herself. She graciously accepted hugs and gifts from us, and we set about introducing ourselves to one another. Then we were led downstairs to our private room and the party began. Drinks and conversation flowed and out came the cameras, so we all gave cheesy grins and got ourselves captured on film (no doubt to be published soon). Diana's bucket filled nicely, as yellow roses were sold, fines were levied and donations were given to swell the coffers. The landlord was brilliant and kindly donated a bottle of pink champagne, together with silver ice bucket, to be auctioned off, so even more money was raised. He then donated some Johnnie Walker Blue Label (exclusive Scotch) and a free night out tonight, which raised still more cash. Amongst the melee, some of us actually got to order and eat some very good food (except my husband, who'd bravely come along and had ordered bangers and mash, which hadn't appeared by the time we had to leave at 4 p m.). Bang on the dot of 2 p m, Steedie made a speech in Gaynor's honour and we all raised our glasses in a toast to such a remarkable lady. When it came to her reply speech, Gaynor was a little stuck for words (not surprisingly!), but she kindly thanked everyone for all their good wishes and gifts and for giving her a lovely day out. Bec dutifully dished out all the promised hugs to Gaynor as the list of huggers was read out, and as a kind and thoughtful gesture, She Wray had sent everyone a little white cherub as a good luck charm. The party was in full swing when we had to leave, but we were sorry to go, as it was such a wonderfully friendly gathering and everyone was enjoying it to the max. I hope they still are, and no doubt some will party on into the night. On the way home, I was able to start the geography section of my family history study, as the lovely Andy had very kindly brought the Durham maps I'd asked for, so I am now a happy bunny - downed several G&Ts; got my maps, 5 yellow roses (my favourite colour) and a lucky cherub; met lots of nice people who smiled when I took their photo (got a great one of Steedie & Aaron snogging), met Gaynor and gave her a purple teddy bear; and got away with not being fined, despite taking Pinky & Perky with me to make sure I was! A memorable event all round, and one I hope will be regularly repeated. A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE to Steedie, Donna and everyone else involved in the organisation. Well done! CB >|< |
