I have a quite few called Medora on one side - it is from a poem by Lord Byron. One 3 x gt grandfather's first name is Northfield - his mother's maiden name. I have the partner to Jax's Sir! my 4 x gt grandmother was baptised Madame Sophia Phillippini Elisabeth Haylock :-) she married under this name too, but was buried as plain Sophia! On the outside of her marriage licence is written 'Lady Haylock' so I think someone got confused about her too! I have not been able to find out why she had this name - her family were (as far as I know) ag labs from rural Essex. Her sister was Maria Constantia, but the boys all had just one name. I would love to know why the girls' names were so grand! Maz. XX |
