I loved Mary Mungo and Midge. Mungo was a dog, midge was a mouse. They lived in a high rise block in a busy town. Mungo used to push the lift button (to call the lift ) with his nose.

In answer to Carol in Dulwich's question, the series was called The Prisoner and it starred Patrick McGoohan. It was filmed at Portmerion near Portmadoc in North Wales.

I'm currently watch a repeat on E4 of the 100 greatest Children's programmes, and alot of the programmes mentioned on here have been mentioned in the show.

The top five are:
5 was Grange Hill

4 was Bagpuss

3 was Dangermouse

2 was The Muppets

And no1 is The Simpsons.

Not at all Christine, and please don't be sorry, I have never let it stop me - I am one of 8 children and was never treated any differently, and would always join in with my siblings, I soon learned what I could and couldn't do. Think it bothered others more than me lol

Used to hate complete strangers stopping me in street asking what was wrong - I told a few stories I can tell you, like skiing accidents, mountain climbing lol - what did it have to do with them ?

Yes, reserved occupation. He did try to join the Navy, but as soon as he gave his occupation thats as far as it went. He had uncles who lost their lives in WWI and his younger brothers served in WW2.

Very sad about your dad, we can only imagine how bad it must have been for them ((hugs)) for you

Both dads parents had died before I was born. I was only 4-5 when my other g.dad died and I just about remember him - he used to go with me for my weekly hosp visits (I had polio aged 3) His wife I do remember she lived with us for her last 6yrs

urgh yes, not animal docs. I know it happens, and its nature, survival for them, but don't think we need to see animals preying on and killing other animals

Yes think that could be the one - Al Jolson story, never was good with remembering names or film titles :)

Never really new my grandparents Christine most had died before I was born, so never got to hear their war stories. dad was born in 1914, but worked on a farm during WWII so was not allowed to join up, maybe that is why I have an interest in the programmes now?

I loved coast, and the Alan Titchmarsh programme

I like the early James Cagney, films - especially Angels with dirty faces, and was it called white heat - where he shouts 'top of the world ma' at the end

I also like the early James Stewart films, also enjoy some of the old Will Hey films, and one of my fav. xmas films is scrooge with Alastair Sim
