Lovely thread!

I remember playing elastics, knucklebones, marbles, conkers and we used to make 'stilts' from old cans with string attached and then walk on them!

Thoses were the days....rolling around in the grass after it had just been mown, not a care in the world!

lol Mo...yes...you just reminded me.....made a lot of din.

Granny, I also remember taking empty bottles back to get money for them, until some bright spark decided to whip round the back of the store where they kept them in crates and took the same ones back time after time. The store owner then put a stop to children taking them back and asked for adults only.

What a lovely thread Granny. I remember most of the things already stated. We were lucky to live near open ground that a brook ran through, mostly only 3/4" of water in but quite wide because it did flood occasionally. There were two sewer pipes that crossed it and we would use them, rather than the bridge. Had great fun but not so funny if we fell off and went home dripping. The open ground had lots of lumps and bumps and ditches in it and we had our own fun biking park. Not so funny when you got a puncter and were read the riot act as dad fixed it. Also had a tree the remants of an old oak. No branches on it and it was like the tower of Pisa. We called it the running up tree and thats what we did, run up it and sat in a hollow on the top. All the dens that we built along the banks of the brook and the fights that broke out between different groups over which one belonged to who's group. We use to be out all day too. Put our dolls in their prams and walk for miles. Remember dressing up my Nan's old dog and pushing her around in a pushchair. She loved it. And what about the swings. Taking them up as high as you felt safe and then jumping off and remembering to duck out of the way quick before it came back and thumped you.
Sorry think I started to write a book here, best get back to the h....w..k.

I remember those **Linda...cant do it now though cos they were made of wood those days.I think you can buy one but not so much fun as making your own.

My Mother taught us all to embroider, crochet and knit and sew by hand......Just didn't have the patience to teach my own chldren as they didn't seem interested...Now they are older they ask me.

I would be interested to know what the boys got up to in them thar days.
