work? WORK? sheesh I worked a full week last year when I went on the Oprah Winfrey show and they paid me.
I also get five billion krona or pounds or Euro a week just for signing on!

Errol, I'm not excusing anyone swearing at you but it's wrong to suggest that swearing demonstrates low intelligence,. I have a high IQ but also a colourful vocabulary! Sometimes nothing fits like a four letter word.

I have to agree with Lady N. that bad language has no connection with ones IQ. Did anyone hear Stephen Fry speaking on this very subject ?

I cant say I agree. From he examples I have seen on the threads when they become abusive there is certainly not an intelligent person behind the posts.

The abuse I have seen stems from what appears to be a frustrated person or persons unable to express themselves in any other way and even then the sentances do not make sence.

And its not typos' I am talking about - I am as guilty of them as the next man / woman.

Anyway have to dash or ill be late for the 4 letter word.

Have been guilty of using bad language myself,,,, not proud of it, but wouldnt say I was unintelligent.... however sending a pm with foul language is for one purpose only to cause insult and upset, forward it to abuse is what I would say........

I will apologise in advance as I tend to use ' colourful ' language but not on here.
I too have a reasonable intelligence but sometimes those naughty words can express more than an every day word.
On occassions when trying to describe people the only way for me express exactly what I mean is to use an expletive.

It all depends on the reason for the bad language

If its a friend pming you to let off steam about something, fair enough ..no problem with that.

If its an abusive email having a pop at you with bad language its personal and should be reported to abuse with a request for the person to be blocked.

I believe it is an offence to transmit swearing/bad language by E.Mail, telephone, CB radio letters etc

Just wanted to clarify my previous post , my point was , the use of swear words do not indicate a lack of intelligence or a good vocabulary. However abuse is a different issue entirely and for that there is no excuse for being abusive either on the boards , pm's or by any other means

I don't believe anyone lacks intelligence just because they use a 4 lettered word.
Having said that, I think PM's are personal, it's not for all to see, if it was abusive to you personally Errol then report it, if it was just in general in the PM then I think ignore it or tell the person not to use those sort of words to you in PM again if it upsets you.

I use colourful language at times, to my shame, when I'm really cross about something. But I was told by a colleague years ago that "people swear because they have limited vocabulary". She herself was told this by her mother.
Um, I think the mother had a point, and these days I try to remember what she said! lol
Seriously though P., I agree with others that this should be reported. You do not warrant that language.

l too have been known to use swear words (sometimes with great satisfaction!!! lol), l'm not always the brightest of people, but l'm not really stupid eaither - so swearing to me has nuffink to do with your intelligence, thats just an old wives tale. Ignorance yessss!!!! but then l'm not ignorant either,so it must be complete lack of respect!!!!!!!
