Hi,
We call them Wimberry's too but I think they are also called Blueberry's. We can buy them in our local Tescos. I grow my own in pots in the garden. Mmmm! Lovely xxxx

We can buy Winberries here in Bolton, but only for about 2/3 weeks of the year.....so my neighbour buys and freezes them.

Hello, Roxanne. Just found this

http://www.bbc.co.uk/lancashire/content/articles/2005/10/04/food_kitchen_sos_feature.shtml
Wimberries, are sometimes found in jars under the "Pek" brand at Asda and I suppose other supermarkets. They are called by their other name of bilberries on the jars. They are imported European Wimberries, and so are a little larger and sweeter than our native Wimberries. Alternatively Beacon Fell is a good place to pick them!
Wimberries look like a smaller version of Blueberries. But Blueberries (an American import I think, grow on bushes.) Wimberries grow on Moorland. Time to pick them is July. There are lots in Saddleworth near Pots & Pans war memorial.
Wimberry is just another name for a Bilberry, also sometimes known as Wortleberries in the south. They grow on moors and are ripe in August usually. They are smaller than blueberries and more acid. The Polish firm 'Krakus' sell them preserved in jars

I used to love Bilberries - wimberries. Had bilberry pies lots of time when I lived in Lancashire but I can not find them in Yorkshire. Years ago I used to buy them in jars but not seen them for a long time.

I used to love wimberry pie ............... mum used to bake the most wonderful pies with them.

All the local greengrocers sold wimberries in my home town in Lancashire ....... there was a very short season if I remember correctly.

Blueberries never tasted quite the same.
