Steve, The trouble with Photographs is You set the Scene,Click, and thats it,where as an Artist "Makes the Scene" using his skill and undoubted talent. That can never be captured on a Camera. It must be wonderful to be able to do that. **M**.

I like both, the old masters are beautiful, but some of the modern photography is excellent.

Not sure i aggree totaly

As an artist i draw and paint nudes have done since my days at uni

but some of the real great modern camera artists like John Hedgcoe do some stunning work

its all about the pose and setting weather it be on canvas or photo paper

just my thoughts

There was a Programme on TV some time ago about this subject, Photographers tried to Reproduce the old Paintings on film with Models,It turned out that they could not get anywhere near the Class, style or Sublety of the Originals.**M**. Ps. On a Personal Level, I much prefer the real thing to Photo,s or Paintings. :o)))>

Wasn't there a story about the Mona Lisa that she was originally painted in a white shift to signify that she had just had a baby?

I put a note on the other thread about another painting where the model was showing signs of breast cancer (I can't remember the name of it).

I like the nude cherubim - they remind me of my son when he was little but had rolls of fat on top of his rolls of fat!

A bit like me now - I could show those reuben raphael chicks a thing or two!

Tina-Marie Report 18 Jan 2008 14:31

Although the Masters nudes all looked very similar, they were more realistic in shape... as I said earlier... In my world anyway. :o))

Am I right in thinking that tests showed that the Mona Lisa was originally painted as a nude? I have to agree with Ann that the paintings by the old masters are much classier and superior than even the best of the modern day photographers
