Hi Bill nice to meet you. I thought about hypnosis but never tried it. My tablets work well and with CBT I'm doing well at the moment. My Dr said I would probably stay on the tablets for life then next visit he said three years so I don't know!

Hi Colin the leaflet I was given at the chemist with the tamiflu says coughing is a sign and Rem is coughing! He was up last nigh for a while and seemed better than earlier in the week.

Hi David how are you these days? Nice to see you pop in x

Going to CBT this morning wonder if I'll be discharged today

Well wasn't discharged I told him I was a bit worried to be left on my own. So I have another appointment and then will get discharged. The problem is 80% better. But I am still worried it will come back with no one to support me.

Hi Bill, good to see you posting on here. I agree it can work for some people, but not for others. For me it did not work. Why? Because I have pain 24/7 and it never goes away, some days are worse than others. I have had pain management and manage to not get to the bottomless pit much now as the strategies do work and have learnt it is okay if I have a very painful day to take my pills and not feel guilty that I have achieved nothing, I can always catch up when feel better. I also have post traumatic stress Disorder, PTSD, and have tried hypnosis, for me it did not work and was very expensive. For some it may. Sometimes, there is the fact that the chemicals in the brain are off kilter and the medication is needed to stabilise the chemicals, bring them back to normal. All of my specialists have recommended that I stay on my meds for the rest of my life, they also have the side effect of cutting down some of the nerve pain, so a double bonus. I take mine because they also stop me from wanting to jump off a cliff.

Hi to everyone, enjoying grandson visiting, he is now 16 months and quite a handful and hard for grandma to keep up with. He is such a joyful child, the other day we had some rain and he found a muddy puddle to play in, his mum and dad just let him play and lay down and splash and have a great time. He was filthy by the time he had had enough, I was also ecstatic that his parents let him do it as many now days do not and the child misses out. I remember having a great time in puddles.

Hi to Y/caz think about you and gentle hugs.

Love and hugs

Gail

Ann in Glos, I stand corrected. The usual seasonal flu is a deadly disease but I was reacting to the panic here and it appears in the northern hemisphere over so-called swine flu.
Interestingly, an article in New Scientist points out why younger people get sicker than older ones. We probably have some immunity, not specifically to H1N1 but in general. I have been through the 1957-58, 1968, and bird flu epidemic of a few years ago. I had a dose some time in the mid 90s but can't remember exactly when.
William, I appreciate your comments about drugs, but there are at least two or three classes of anti-depressants. The SSRI type (Prozac and its successors) seem to have fewer side effects than the older tricyclics, but some of the SSRIs do appear to have serious side effects.
There were times in my life where antidepressants were almost literally a life saver. The first time was before Prozac was widely available, and I got doxepin (Sinequan). When the problem re-emerged, each time my GP (and psychiatrist) continued to prescribe the doxepin. It may not have been fashionable by then, but it worked for me with minimal side effects other than sedation. So I took it at night.
I did try hypnotherapy but rather to my regret found it was useless.
Hang in there, mate.
Greetings also to David who popped in a couple of days ago. Hope things are going OK with you.
Hello Liz, Carole (both of you), Hazel, Eileen, Ann and others I can't remember at the moment. I need a diary.

I used to suffer terrible depression after my son died aaged 17. I tried drugs from the Doc, but didn't like the sound of the side effects, so I got myself off them. I tried counselling, but that got me nowhere. Then I came across a hypnotherapist. After an in depth interview she said she could help and predicted that 10 sesssions with her and I would be a lot better. I certainly was. She brought out things that bothered me which I had hidden away for years. I am now much changed. I have my down times still, but using the strategies she taught me I can dump the blues.
I would recommend this therapy. Expensive but worth it. Just be careful that it is a propertly qualified practitioner you go to.

Well Rem seems a little brighter today. Still poorly though. He is in bed a lot of the time, has been down a short time and laid on the setti.

Spoke with Dutch this afternoon, and I am quite worried as she sounded very shory of breath just by getting up to talk on the phone, and we only spoke for ten mins much shorter than she can usually talk. The hospital have found a shadow on her lung.

Hi all, struggling at the mo with o.h. starting to take his diabetes tablets and having to think twice about what to eat, so I am having to try and get him into a better routine with eating, he is awful about missing meals. He got stuck at work after doing 12 hrs as someone on holiday and the other chap forgot he was doing overtime too so didn't turn up to relieve him, he left here at 5.30am yesterday and got home at 7.40pm! He has to be at work again at 6am today but only for the usual 8 hrs.

My apologies to all those I owe replies to, can't get on here as often when he is around and had to go out and do errands yesterday pm, today he will be home so still no opportunity except at night and I have so much to catch up with.

Doesn't mean you are not in my thoughts and hope we can all stay clear of swineflu and other bugs.

take care
love
Lizxxx

o.h. said he tried to ring the Swine Flu helpline yesterday but all he got was crackling !

It took me a second lol but only because I was amazed he would ring the helpline as he swears it's all a lot of panic over nothing!

Hazel, hugs for Caitlin. Once upon a time I had my tonsils and adenoids out. Came home with chicken pox. That was also when they discovered "my" heart defects. One fixed, one still present. Still going strong 54 years later.
To Mary, special gentle hugs for you and and for your assorted tribe.
To you and other northern hemispherers, my humble thoughts on the swine flu business. In the southern hemisphere we have already gone through one winter with the H1N1 swine flu. In Australia it came in with people who had been to North America, but it was a relatively mild disease, less severe than the usual seasonal influenza that it replaced this year. Although several hundred people died, they were mainly people with other health problems. The one scary risk factor seemed to be pregnancy.
Also, as far as I know coughing is not a symptom of H1N1. That would be the common cold. Makes you feel miserable, but is not life threatening.
Hello to all.
PS Dutch Joyce, got your Christmas card. First of the year. Thank you.

O.M.G...... what kind of people would do that to a child.... to ANYONE really??

I stopped my children 'trick or treating' years ago. my youngest now 38 next month, has never been 'trick or treating'.
I have always thought that it is fraught with dangers to the children.

Mary, to use my Irish husband's saying.... You don't have your troubles to seek, do you?
Bless him, I hope Gareth comes off well in these assessments.
The problem is that the assessors, don't really know the child and never see all the lovely parts of their nature.
Love Deanna XXX

And love to all my mind savers on here.
Now if you could all just turn up tomorrow and help me with the last of the 'big clean up of the kitchen'.... it would be greatly appreciated! ;-0)

Here's today's news about Halloween goodies being tampered with:WHITBY, Ont. - Durham Regional Police are urging parents to check their children's Halloween candy after a needle was found in a Tootsie Roll in Whitby, Ontario.

A two-inch needle had been inserted into the candy and was partly visible.

The candy wrapper appeared to be tampered with and the parent found the needle.

No one was injured.

Last Halloween, police in that region reported five instances of pills found inside Smarties boxes given out as trick-or-treating loot.

Ann you make sense - must try to think of myself as a therapist LOL.
The past few years there have been some nasty incidents reported throughout north america, at Halloween, with razor blades and/or needles found in apples which kids had received going door-to-door, an apple used to be a treat but now anything un-wrapped is suspect.
I am very weakened but mentally feel a bit better today. Slept 16 hours Friday night, and 14 hours last night.
miniMary is quite unwell with fever and nasty cough, Gareth also has a fever and very lethargic, perhaps this has been brewing and may explain his recent behaviour. Sarah and Em and their Mum have gone to the last day for the pumpkin farm, not desperately cold so they should enjoy it.
Hugs to those who need them and thanks for being in my corner.

Mary, have you thought that it is a therapy for him, if he is going through a bad time with chemo etc, maybe he wants something in his life to cheer him up.

Two things in your post I didn't quite get. Is H1N1 What we call swine flu?

And what do you mean 'too many scares over needles in apples'? I don't think we have heard of that here, sounds truly awful.

Hope you feel better soon it does sound like flu of some sort, our Grandson at Uni had it this week.

Glad that the kids had an enjoyable halloween. We only had one lot of trick or treaters round here and that w as a group of five not really dressed up, just a bit of green make-up. Gave them sweets expecting more but that was it.
