Deanna, I went on the steroids gig a few years ago, for a very severe allergic reactions, everything swelled up, it was horrible for some time, until the doctors found the cause of the allergens and now avoid these things and only take antihistamines now. I looked like the Michelin Man for a few months though. I used to wear thongs on my feet for work. I do not know how many times I got caught out from kicking my shoes off under the desk and forgetting that I had taken them off. Not very professional though.

Snakes, well in a way you do get used to them, I grew up with them around. You need a very healthy respect for them and be able to run fast. If you cannot run fast, well get some knee hi gum boots, which I will have to do when shopping this Saturday.

Very warm here for this time of year, unseasonal, so probably in for a very hot dry summer.

Hi all,

Went and put some flowers down for mum yesterday where she was born,

On way had a full hurt all my left side, my hip is killing me today the most.

Then went to LMA rest of the day, late afternoon had the fire alams go off and all had to wait outside in the pouring rain so got very wet.

Didnt find what i was looking for. So be back down there next week i hope.

Annie, I too love my bare feet.
As a child I loved walking about in bare feet and my mother was always telling me off.... you'll get 'god knows what in your feet'!
All I ever got, was comfort.
Then when I met Allan , I used to walk about bare footed, and he told me off because ... 'people will think I don't give you money for shoes!'

The thing is I love shoes.
I used to have so many.... all cheap, I must add.
Quantity not quality for me.

NOW... my feet are so bad I have to wear 'COSIFEET' .... and they are anything but fashionable. Sometimes they are not even comfortable.... bare feet win every time, except that now I am not well enough to be walking around bare footed.
I had to have a pair of shoes made for me once....£200.... I keep them as a reminder although I would be happy to give them to anyone who needs them.
I was on a high dose of STEROIDS and even my feet swelled up... it was unbelievable.
I had a pair made for me on the NHS and they were a joke. I refused to take them, but have wished ever since that I had taken a photograph of them... they were an insult.

My feet went down again as my tablets were reduced.
Now my feet are just misshapen with arthritis... ain't life fun, fun, fun??

It is SO cold for September, don't you agree?
It is cold whether you agree with me or not... so there.

I am going to shut down for the night I think.
It is cold, and I cannot put the heating on for long periods as Allan can't stand it with his lungs. I can always sit with a blanket over me, which I do sometimes.
Come the winter and the REAL COLD, then I will have the heating on.

How are you all? I have not been spending much time on here so am missing you all.
Once I have answered my mail, and perhaps had a look around, my legs are SO cold I have to go.

I hope you are all as well as can be expected... as the hospitals say, and I will be back when I feel warm enough to sit here again. brrrrrr ;-0)

Have to take Coco to the vet tonight, it's that time of year when he gets bit, no sign of anything on him, but sores where he scratches. Poor Coco.

Trying to keep myself busy here, 3 days no cigs and its the hardest day today. I have just has a bacon butty and it feels weird not to be outside smoking now. So am going to go upstairs and change the beds busy busy busy.

Hi all, oh Gail there is no way l could live where you are, lam petrified of snakes even reading your post made me go cold, ahhhh. ( quick change the subject, lol.)
Talking about bare feet, l love it when l've been out , first thing l do is kick shoes off, nothing like the feeling of having nothing on your feet. l donot even like wearing slippers.

Hi to all from the barefoot granny. I had to go and set some chickens with eggs tonight, and usually do it of a night as does not disturb the hens too much. I have brooder pens for setting the eggs, as is easier for the hens to get a feed and keep an eye on the chickens when they hatch. Well I put shoes on, shock horror. Well ask me why? It is snake season, they are out early this year, so made sure I had long loose trousers and sturdy shoes in case I stepped on a snake in the dark.

Biggest problem it is the brown snakes that I have seen this year, and just out of hibernation they are very angry buggers and also very fast and at this time of year they are also whip thin. Had the browns chase me a few times. Now, the red belly black snake I do not mind as they are loads shyer and usually only pass through going to the river. But, I really hate the brown snakes and the tiger snake, they are both so aggressive. So looks like this year I am going to get some gumboots just in case.

We also look like we may be in drought again, not much rain through the winter and a very dry spring so far.

Good to see many of the regulars posting in the last couple of days. We do seem to be going through a bit of rough time. Special thoughts to Mary, it has been a bit tough. Milk powder and keyboards do not mix.
One of mine died after I spilled a glass of water on it. At work fortunately, so I didn't have to buy a new one. My then boss coffee'd his. It died even more quickly.
I was interested to see the discussion about bare feet. I have always worn shoes, so my feet are soft, but I have known people who didn't wear shoes. One reason to shun avoid them is the problem of finding shoes that fit. I have odd size feet, with a big bunion on one. After years of struggling with shoes taht were in hindsight were just a little small and narrow, I have found a brand of walking shoes that are broad, and maybe half a size bigger than what teh shop assistant says is my size. Only problem is the cost. About 200 dollars AUD- 100 pounds GB. I think it is worth it, though.
Hugs, Hazel, Liz, Caroles. Caz Yorks, I wasn't offended, just having a gentle dig back. I also have seen those cartoons. My sin is probably hereditary, not enough water and too much red meat. If you can believe it, I am an Aussie who doesn't drink beer. Or Port. :-)))

Well I'm here - in short spurts. had probs with my keyboard after Sarah dumped a pile of milk powder on it, then some sticky liquid followed, not sure what.
Plus, the past week has been wild - getting ready for school, going to a new school, the dog is sick, think she may have something malignant (the smell tells a nurse the diagnosis), was going to take her to the vet today but I can't lift her into the van alone.
Last week we decided that Sarah and Gareth's bedroom carpets must be lifted. Underneath we founf 130y/o wood , must have been beautiful once, but unable to refinish due to the length of time and dust involved.
We've made 3 separate decisions as to the replacement in the past week, meanwhile both rooms and the hall are rough wood, and the rooms are empty - we have finally settled on wood - no carpet, no laminate., Should be done this weekend. So everyone has been living in my flat. Chaos has erupted yet again.
Mini Mary's bag project is doing well, she sold 16 bags today!!! The dining room no longer exists, just a sewing centre. I am dreaming about bags LOL. Have orders for 6 more to be done by the weekend. I find I am pretty well settled in front of the machine(s) all day. I'm her helper LOL.
We are also organising a big fundraiser evening, perhaps inappropriately it will be at the senior citizens centre in town, 10 mins away, hall holds 400 people. A friend seems to be helping more than I am, she's organising prizes and raffle donations etc. Emlyn plays with a little girl round the corner, whose Daddy has a band, we hope thay may be available that evening.
I LOVE bare feet, but having woken up to the fact that every time I fall I am bare-footed, I am now trying to make myself wear lace-up shoes in the house for safety, as there is a big ceramic floor, where I usually take my spills LOL
Been fighting a migraine headache all week, heavy clouds and a touch of stress.
May I ask - does anyone live in or near Cheam/Sutton area in Surrey? My cousin has to have hip replacement surgery in November, and her husband will have to go into a care home of some kind while she's recuperating. She's hoping to find a good home, but I wonder if anyone has any personal knowledge of local care homes.
I am a bit ragged around the edges, but generally feeling better since I retired and then took a casual job at the same home. So I only go in now when needed, so nice, don't miss the routine, though I miss the staff and residents. (some of each , more than others)
Thank you for your concern, I am just really busy and hesitate to sit down in case I fall asleep LOL.

Ann in glos, my OH also finds it very strange, he hates having bare feet, but then his parents are from Yorkshire. I used to do my shopping in bare feet, shoes were left in the car, where I grew up the only place you had to wear them was at a club. My dad did not own a pair of shoes until he was 15, said it was very harsh in the winter. I can walk on surfaces that my OH cannot as my feet are tough and his are not, but mine are very sensitive as to what is under them. Funny thing though OH has had many cuts on his feet and I have never had any.

The only person in my family to always wear shoes was my mother, everyone else loved having bare feet most of the time. I have never suffered with problems with my feet, yet OH constantly has foot problems.

The area where I live, nobody looks twice if you do not have shoes on, especially in the warmer months.

Gail, sorry to hear that you are still not well, hopefully you will shake it when you get some nice weather. When I was a child we had Australian neighbours for a while (Naval I think on assignment), they had two children and neither of them ever wore shoes, even catching the bus into town, we found it very strange.

Yes, still having trouble shaking this horrid flu, up coughing all night, as soon as it gets dark the cough starts, so very tired. OH is having trouble shaking it this time as well, it went through his work like a tornado, and about 80% of the town as well. OH has the flu jab, and still got it badly, but from what he has been told it is probably swine flu, as those that bothered to try and get into the doctors have been told that is what they have.

It is supposed to be spring, but not as much blossom this year, not enough rain this year, though the clover is growing well. Have chickens starting to go broody, but not setting any eggs yet, as the nights are still too cold. I opened my office window on good days and I get the sent of the violets coming through the window, it is so lovely. My daffodils have finished, the jonquils are still flowering and the wallflowers are starting to reshoot and small seedlings sprouting.

My favourite shoe is just bare feet, only wear shoes when going out of the yard mostly. OH makes me wear shoes outside in the winter though. I like to feel what is under my feet, saves a lot of falls. Although, I do not like the bindies or burs or catheads in my feet. I do remember having stilettos though I did not wear them much, I have usually had chunkier heals, probably because when I was younger worked on my feet most of the time. Plus, they did hurt, but I was very much a tomboy so usually wore sensible shoes. Boring person I must be. My favourite shoes/boots at the moment are a type of moccasin/boot that are brown and up to the mid calf with loads of blue and red beading on them, and wool lined. The sole is strong but very light so can mostly feel through the bottom easily, I do get some funny looks when wearing them, but they are very comfortable and warm.

Liz I used to love high heels. Never wear them now. I like a smaller heel, kitten are my favs. I think my favorite foot wear is a pair of black leather knee length boots I bought last year. They have a good heel but not like the ankle breakers girls are wearing now!! xx Not long to your holiday

I go on Oct 2nd. Long flight which I am not looking forward to. We used to go on the upper deck where there were only about 30 seats it was so much quieter and no children under 10. Now we are with a different air company so oh booked seats in the lower big cabin. Keeping the cost down!

I'm back at the Drs this afternoon. Feeling lots better but not 100% just yet. Results of blood test should be there.

Colin, I didn't mean to offend you with the mention of gout, lol, but it was those Victorian cartoons you see of old men with their big toe bandaged and up on a stool, glass of port in one hand, cigar in the other. Anyway sorry and I hope yours is not too painful.
I went for my bone scan yesterday, after the injection we went out into the hospital grounds and sat in the sun for two hours, it was lovely and peaceful.
When I had the scan I had to lie flat, well some of you know I can't do that, it was agony so the girl put a prop under my knees which made it better. When it came to getting up, I couldn't, it was so painful to even try to move onto my side, she had to go and get Richard who had done the photos and they both helped me up. I have ct scan on Monday so it will be the same again. At least we had a laugh when I was upright, it was Richard who had given me the injection and took three goes. He said he was going to take the day off if he sees my name again, he was one of the three who took over an hour trying to find a vein for injection a couple of times ago, then sent me home to come back the week after,he mentioned it yesterday when called to get me up lol.

Does anyone know how long it takes between the Google car camera taking pictures and it ending up on Google maps ? A couple of weeks ago hubby said oh Google car is coming down the street, of course I stuck my head out of the kitchen window just as he was passing. He turned round at the bottom and came back up the street, I just hope I got my head back in in time.
