Sharron Report 14 Aug 2010 12:54

On for the usual whinge.
As you know, getting the old man out is like organizing the coronation. So,he needed to go to the wheelchair service as he has worn out his electric wheelchair and,as his bum no longer resembles a perfectly pert peach so much as a watermelon, his manual chair was too tight.
It was decided to send him home to await the delivery of a brand new wheelchair,RESULT,carrying with him a set of out riggers for the engineer to fit to his manual chair on his next visit.
Having waited ages for him to appear,I called the company as the old electric chair was playing up.He turned up only to find that the outriggers were the wrong ones and could not be made to fit the manual chair.

This in the same week as the old man had been to the hospital for the fitting of a new brace to his right hand, the useless one,to stop it curling up.He had waited quite a long time for this too as it had been ordered especially from America.I had asked if the OT unit might come out to fit it but they don't do home visits.

So,having managed once again to get the planets in alignment,we get him off to the hospital, only to have them open the box and take out a left hand splint!!!!!

Why am I grey haired with gnawed off finger nails?

Just putting this on, wonder whether the funding will really help those who need it, it's always very hard and expensive to access counselling etc

Re Petition to:
save the UK’s leading anxiety disorders charity, Anxiety UK, at a time when demand for their services is hugely increasing due to the economic crisis.
This petition is now closed, as its deadline has passed.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to save the UK’s leading anxiety disorders charity, Anxiety UK, at a time when demand for their services is hugely increasing due to the economic crisis. Anxiety UK supports over 30,000 anxiety sufferers every year and has had their Department of Health funding discontinued from April 2009. More details

Submitted by Anna Caig of Anxiety UK – Deadline to sign up by: 18 September 2009 – Signatures: 942

More details from petition creator
Anxiety UK, Britain’s leading anxiety disorders charity, has been given the devastating news that their Department of Health funding has been pulled, despite the fact that the country is facing an anxiety epidemic due to the credit crunch and demand for the charity’s services are going through the roof. Calls to the telephone helpline have doubled in recent months, and emails from anxiety sufferers requesting support are up 400%. The Department of Health funding of £50,000 per year has formed a substantial part of the charity’s core funding for the last 9 years, and this shocking news has thrown the whole financial sustainability of the charity into question.

Government response
In the current economic downturn, the potential exists for more people to become anxious or depressed and experience lower levels of mental well-being. No one should be left in any doubt about where to turn. That is why the Government’s aim is to make sure that services are in place to support people affected psychologically by the recession.

The Department of Health has increased funding to the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme to £173million in 2010/11. The total investment between 2008/09 and 2010/11 will be £309million.

This will be used to continue to train a new workforce of 3,600 extra therapists and treat up to 900,000 more people with anxiety and depression over these three years. In March 2009, the former Health Secretary and the former Work and Pensions Secretary also announced an additional one-off £13million package of measures to help people experiencing depression or anxiety as a result of the economic downturn in 2009/10. As a result, the NHS as a whole will be better equipped to recognise these issues and refer people to appropriate treatment or support.

The Third Sector Investment Programme (TSIP) replaced the Section 64 General Scheme of Grants from 2009/10. Under the TSIP, core funding is no longer offered through the scheme, but organisations can apply for development funding to develop capacity and sustainability whilst reducing dependency on Government funding.

Anxiety UK submitted two applications for consideration for the round commencing 1 April 2010. The applications sought funding under the Service Development and Community/User Participation and Peer Support themes. However, in a competitive field, the applications did not meet the criteria as clearly as the successful applications.

If something was working well, why not continue to fund it, not try and fund something new which will take time to be up and running! How many people will slip through the net or be unsupported in the meantime?

Hi all, My 1mg prednisolone (I use both 5mgs &1mg tablets)is a tiny white pill too.... and a night mare for dropping around. But I have long nails which are handy for picking things up. ;-0)
Allan has an even smaller tablet which he has to halve..., and the size of his hands , it is very difficult for him.
We are lucky to have all this treatment to hand, but sometimes it is so difficult as we get older, isn't it?

It is absolutely freezing today...that is an unusual thing for me to say, isn't it?
I phoned my sil this morning and she had the fire on... (one electric bar) so I'm not alone in my coldness.

I am supposed to be sending a message through AMAZON and here am I, chatting away with you lot. Well.... why not?
Happy birthday Ann. XX

All of you , look after yourselves and if I get any warmer, I may be back later.

I always think of my dad when I think of pills. He had BP tablets, as I do, and one of his was Bendrofluazide the same as mine. That is a very very tiny tablet. When we used to visit him I used to find them all over the kitchen floor where he had obviously tried to get hold of one and dropped it. He had his loose in a container from the chemist, mine are in blister packs which is how I prefer them.

Anything which helps Teresa...
and as for your family mixing up their medications....
Buy them a weekly medicine box each.
We have them in our house.
We both set out our medicines for the month .... 4 weekly boxes... it is just SO handy , and stops us making silly mistakes.
The worst thing about it is that filling them up is such hard work!!
Still, it is only once a month.

Good luck with Cruise, love... speak later.

Oh Caroline, how exciting.
Have a wonderful time... and don't cuddle them TOO MUCH or too TIGHTLY.... ha ha ha
My eldest child was always saying... "mummy, stop cuddling me...."
No... ignore me....enjoy yourself hug them as much as you
want to... ;-0) XX

Ann, I may have over reacted to the remarks, but I am always so careful how I answer people on here, after all, we cannot SEE the true response, so why not be aware of the hurt we may cause.
I would NEVER hurt anyone.... especially on here.... even the people such as yourself who
are rude to me (nag... I ask yah) .. ;-0) X

The weather is a bit 'iffy' today, but not cold... YET.
I have two (sports) shirts to wash for Allan, they are in soaking.. don't let me forget them ..okay?

Well I suppose I had better go and do something else before I get caught up in this pooter.
Love to all.
Have a great day.

We should all remember how easy it is to hurt people especially with throw away remarks. I am sorry you were hurt and I don't blame you for not returning to the thread. Although I hope it is not a thread that gave you enjoyment. I too have been unnecessarily hurt on these boards in the past. I solve that by not engaging in conversation with the particular person. But I wont let it keep me off threads.

Children usually suffer from fear when they don't understand and, when we were young and children were to be seen and not heard, it would not have occurred to the adults to prepare the child for something like surgery. We were just 'sent' there because we were!

Yes, I have heard that one or something similar. I think it was 'there is no such thing as a nagging wife, only a husband who won't do what he is told'.

Deanna

Deanna Report 11 Aug 2010 17:56

Teresa, did your FIL have hot flushes, and your MIL..... I can't even type what I was going to say... It was too rude.
Be careful Teresa, this lot will get so familiar with you and you know what FAMILIARITY brings..... Well all I can say is, just look at the way that Ann one treats me!!
I'll be sending no Christmas cards this year, I'm telling you.

But I luvs them all anyway... but that says more about me than them Teresa... don't you think?;-0)

Ann You must have been so afraid, I can still remember the fear I felt.
One of the things I really hate to hear people saying is..."children are SO resilient"... Rubbish. Children can carry pain as long as any adult.

O.M.G.... am I nagging?

Oh well, I always say that a nag is a request which is constantly ignored!!
Argue that one then....

I love this thread.
I feel safe on here. Naive? Perhaps, but I need to trust somewhere. Can't go around worrying all the time. Can we?

I have just been on an other thread and came off feeling a bit hurt, yes... even old women can be hurt.
It was , to my mind, and unnecessary remark... and I will not go back onto that thread for a very long time.
Childish? Perhaps, but we are all only children at heart and if I can try not to hurt people unnecessarily, why should I be hurt unnecessarily?
Rant over.... and I'm home again. ha ha ha
So good night folks, have a good sleep and a pleasant evening too.
Lots of hugs to those who need them... like me.... ahhhh

No of course you are not Deanna, of course you are not *grins!

Ooh that would have been terrifying to a child, and I can still remember having that mask over my face when I had my tonsils out aged 6. And I can remember the anaethetist asking me if I played netball (while the mask was on) and asking me to count. No pre op jabs then so you didn't see the theatre, scary for a child it was.

I laughed out lous at the thought of the dentist pulling a tooth inches from the dogs face. He muct have been hoping the dog would understand that he wasn't going to hurt Sarah, and hoping he wasn't going to come over all protective.

Deanna Report 11 Aug 2010 12:31

Ah well, if you are going to win the lottery Mary, I will
accept anything you feel the need to give me.
I'm very charitable like that.... I will take a few
thousand pounds from ANYONE.
Just as a favour to them you understand.

I have done that myself Mary.... my own tablets, but taken twice.
We can all be daft at times.

That is an amazing dog your little one has. Bless him, talk about mans best friend.

The story of the dentists reminded me of a visit I had to make to the dentists when I was 7.
We were in Germany at the time just after the war (my dad was a regular soldier).
We were sent to the hospital to have our teeth out.
They took me on a trolley down to theatre and left me in a TERRIFYING anti room.
There were huge (well to me they were) jars of all sorts of jellies, and bits of things...
I lay there looking at them and feeling real fear.
Then they wheeled me into the theatre... and that was it. The were gonna cut me up and put me in some of those jars!
They put this mask on my face and I went BERSERK!... They were not gonna kill me without a fight. And just like your Sarah.... it took the entire theatre staff to hold me down!!!
I really felt for your little one... I just immediately saw myself at seven years old.

Is she okay now bless her?

Right... I am REALLY going now.
BYE ALL....
Love Deanna XXXX
and I am not a nag....... this is where my son says. OKAY, stop going on about it! tee hee

Dear Theresa, yes St John's Wort does work (and how wonderful that a physician is suggesting a herbal remedy), but it does take time, so be prepared for about a month before you have the desired effect. It is a very old remedy, so the effects are well-documented. If it were a crisis situation I doubt he would have suggested it. Sounds like a good idea. Please feel welcome on this thread, it is an amazing lifeline for many of the folks on here.
OOPS, I shouldn't have mentioned my slip-up on here!! dear Deanna you made your point, in fact I had made it to myself before you said it. LOL
What happened was this - I don't normally give Sarah her meds, I poured hers into my hand, and went to get her a drink, then 'automatically' threw them into my own mouth, habit I suppose. Wasn't till 1/2 hour later, when Colleen asked if Sarah had had her meds, that I suddenly realised what I'd done, after we'd searched for the pills, I remembered pouring them out, but it wasn't for another 1/2 hour before I clued in that they were inside me instead of Sarah. perhaps I should have had my stomach pumped but the chemist whom I phoned said I'd just have to ride out the storm.
I confessed it here, really to make other people aware that even the trained can make a mistake and to please be careful. Thank you though for your concern,, nice to have people to care about you.
Wish I'd had a camera yesterday, Sandy the autism service dog, accompanied Sarah to the dentist. and lay on top of her in the chair. The dentist had to pull a tooth, lucky me got the feet to hold! It was such a sight, 5 adults holding parts of Sarah so the dentist could quickly grab the tooth and pull it out quickly. he said he'd never pulled a tooth with a dog's face in the way LOL. All 54 pounds of Sandy had laid right on top of her, with his paws on her shoulders and his head on her chest, she played with his ears while the dentist ventured into the mouth. When the job was finished the dentist, who is a teddy bear of a fellow with a wonderful sense of humour, suggested that instead of being paid, we should share a bottle of sherry!!

Colleen is finally getting another car, miniMary will be thrilled as it's a purply blue colour, now Liz you HAVE to visit, it'll be an appropriate carriage for you to ride around in!! I am planning on winning a lottery by the end of the year LOL.
Group hug
Mary

Good luck with them Teresa, I have heard of it but never used it so I don't know.
Anything is worth a try though isn't it?

I have just typed out a great long letter to you all, clicked to ask the dictionary for a definition.... AND IN TRUE DEANNA FASHION....... it disappeared!!
Now I have to start all over again.

RIGHT.... Ann. What the he** do you mean nag nag nag? ;-0)
I'm a good girl me.. and well you know it!
And I must have just missed you last night, as I came on to say good night, but did not look at this thread. When I start on this thread, I get so carried away that I forget what time it is. XX

Joyce, I am so pleased that you have your boy there. I know what it is like when they are away and you can't touch them. Our most precious people.... they should never be allowed to roam..... Try telling that to our grown up sons! ;-0)Enjoy the company and the gossip love. XX

I don't know what time it is in Canada Mary, but whatever you are doing.... STOP IT.
Sit down and have a cuppa. And look after Mary.
If you don't look after Mary, you will not be able to look after your beloved family. XX

Right , and now for the reason I came on here this morning.
I was supposed to let you all know that Liz is not ignoring us. She is run off her feet with this wedding, and her boy is going to a wedding this weekend too, so life is busy for her just now. And she is a bit 'frazzled', fed up, and generally , also needs a rest.
She will be back though. Bless her, she needs to get TOUGH..... but that is difficult when we are in a low state, isn't it?
Cheer up you eedjit! ;-0) XXX

Now... I really must get a wiggle on.

Speak again soon.
And Teresa... let us know how you get on with the pills. AND, if they don't work... go back to the doctors.XX

Hey Ann, is that what you meant when you said I'm a nag??? ha ha

Byeee,
lots of love Deanna XXXXX

Just wondering, and sorry I havnt checked the whole thread or posted on here before, if any one has tried St Johns wort? GP thought it may help me with anxiety and palpitations. He did an ECG to make sure it was not a medical problem and all was well heart wise. I did buy some today and the chemist said that they can take up to 4 weeks to work.

Many thanks
