Mary how lovely this morning to read all your news. It's so good to see you back home! I love the sound of the sugar bush breakfast. And I too wish I could win the lottery and send you all to Disney.

Well my cousin who I was to go see in June has asked us to delay our trip, because of family problems (her son has been told he has bi polor). We have already paid for, and booked our flights to New York, so it looks like two weeks in New York this year. Any Ideas what we can do there? Mary we will see if we can get to meet you as we would love to take Hayley to the Falls.

I feel a lot better this last week after taking anti biotics and steroids. But my chest is just a little tight this morning. Had my shots of steroid inhaler preventor, and hoping it loosens it. Slept better last night I think knowing I didn't have to be up for work today.

Steve was poorly yesterday with the same as I had Monday and Hayley had Sunday.

Hayley is coping better now with the sudden death of her friend. Looked at lincolnshire echo on line to see if there is a berevement announcement in for Sarah today, as her body was to be released yesterday. But nothing. Her father in law was the one to ID the body. How awfull for him. I can't stop thinking about the little baby asking, Mummy? He is one of those babies you just adore. So beautiful, with his big smiling eyes. Heartbreaking.

Just a quickie before I go out. Mary, have you got a library that would maybe appreciate your books, if you don't want to sell them? Libraries here accept books sometimes and your sound like wonderful reference books. Then you would know they were still being used by people who were interested.

hi Mary, wow you have been busy and all with a dodgy hand/arm and a boot on your foot lol No holding you when the boot comes off and the hand is fully healed then eh? Glad you all enjoyed the sugar bush experience again and shared it with others too and pleased that your decorating is almost done, nice that you found some bargain lights that you are pleased with, what a palace it will look when it's all finished. Do you think you will take a few moments to rest for a bit ?
I am pleased your ex colleagues are going to hold a pot luck send off, whatever that may be lol Shows they appreciated your company and efforts even if the boss wasn't too good at showing it.

Have you thought of taking the books to an auction house, they might give you an idea where they would be appreciated and if you could sell them, it would be some more money in the pot. Wish I could win the lottery so I could send you the money for Disney World, in fact I would get tickets for my son and me to come too

Hi Lily, nice to see you posting, hope you are ok.
I haven't started that book yet, not in the right frame of mind to cope with the sadness in it, knowing it is based on a true situations.
I am reading a novel at the mo and it's becoming quite dark, which I hadn't realised so I am only reading a little bit at a time as sadly although fiction, it portrays something that actually is still happening in this wicked old world of ours so quite difficult to take too much of at a time.

It's been a funny week with o.h. on later shifts than usual so he is still around till 2.30pm instead of 1.30pm, it puts me out of my routine, such as it is, and I haven't done much at all this week. Today he is going early to do a spillage course, as he says fgs, how to wipe up spillages of oil, etc at work, he did one a while back, what more can you learn lol, It means he goes in at 11.30am and is home at 10.30pm then on Friday it is 6am to 4pm. Things were very good at the company until a few years back when they got rid of one chap who would fill in for all the extra cover when someone was sick or on holiday and at other times would help with routine maintenance stuff. Now the regular staff have to cover for each other and it means that someone can be on two week's of 12 hr shifts when it is holiday time, which is a bit difficult when you have holidays that follow each other, so one person has a fortnight off and comes back to 12 hr shifts, thus defeating the good of the holiday, and the person who covered him on 12 hr shifts is exhausted before their holiday the next fortnight and had hardly any time to get ready, i.e. sorting out garden and packing etc. None of their efforts are appreciated either, and they get very little notice to change shifts or work overtime on Saturdays too. Still I suppose having a job is better than not!

Better get ready for bed, have a good day all

Had another busy day, the hallway is now painted too, just have to do the trim..miniMary had a couple of days with her friend and came home in a right royal mood tonight!!. "Everyone" she knows has been to Disney World "at least twice and we've never been once". As much as I'd love to provide that experience for them, there always seem to be other priorities. Now Emlyn's dance team has been invited to the 'Dance America' competition in Disney, Florida in July, she will be devastated if she can't go, but the logistics are nuts, and by then we should have the dogs too. (They are now delayed to April) Just visualize 7 people and 2 big dogs in one van for 22 hours drive. And there's no time for a breakdown - for either the van or me !! And we can't let her go with a friend's family either, as the other kids here would be so upset.

Sarah's worker walked to the mall with her today, approx one mile, and they took the bus back. Both new experiences for Sarah and she coped very well. Sarah came marching in the door wearing a big hat covered in shamrocks, waving a green noise-maker stick and sporting green beads, she was celebrating St Patricks day, with no clue who he was!! Her Daddy was born in Belfast so she has Irish blood on both sides of her family, and she celebrated with gusto!!
She told me tonight that I'm crazy!! I certainly wanted her to talk but I hadn't planned on being the target for her new words!!

We took our annual trip to the "sugar bush" yesterday, had pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage all dripping with maple syrup, then went on a hay ride and a walk through the wood to see the trees being 'tapped ' for the sap. We took our Haitian friend and her 2 y/o daughter with us, a new experience for them. Sarah's worker came too, to walk with Sarah, I found it quite amazing that she, born in Canada, had never before been to a sugar bush breakfast. They all had a wonderful time, I met a girl there, with whom I had worked until recently, and she tells me they are planning a pot-luck send-off for me in April at work. I am to come during their staggered supper hour, it will be nice to see them all, I must say I miss the contact and the camaraderie. She was surprised to see me in a boot cast !! She had a horrible injury 2 years ago at work when she lost her balance going through a doorway, struck her upper arm on the door frame a shattered part of her humerus, off work for months. Now a nasty scar remains but she is fully functional, I am amazed. sheer determination I suspect.

I am trying to sort out what to do with some lovely books which were my mother's. Large books, full of coloured photos, of wildflowers of the world, birds of Canada, wildflowers of Canada, books about Canadian antique collecting etc. They are lovely but take up a lot of room and I doubt I'll sit and read them any time soon, or ever. It's this whole thing about connecting a person who has passed, with objects. Nothing wrong with the books, they just aren't me! But I keep moving them from house to house, my mother has been gone for 9 years, my Dad for 36 years, yet I continue to treasure their treasures and wonder why there is so much stuff about. I think if someone I knew wanted the books, I would easily part with them, but just to drop them off somewhere seems wrong.
Another nice day but a bit chilly, the report tonight is for a bit of fleeting snow in the next few days, don't they know we've had enough???
Colleen took me tonight to get some new ceiling lights for the lounge, think it will look much better when we are done. The shop was a newly built super-store type of hardware store, which just opened today. Great selection and the prices were greatly reduced on many items including my lights, so I am a happy camper tonight!
I submitted 3 short tales from my nursing days and the person who is compiling the book was pleased with them, that was a shot in the arm.

Midnight so I am heading to bed, or I should say to my chair. Deanna you will feel so very comfy in your new 'lifter' chair, one of the best inventions ever.
Hugs all round,
Mary

Hi Everyone, Happy St. Patricks Day Eileen and anyone else of Irish Desent. I know what you mean Eileen about the drink, i really wish that Irish people would think of some other way of celebrating without thinking of drink first.
Poor St. Patrick would be turning in his grave if he knew what his fellow Bishops were up to now.
Even though i do not post very much at the moment you are all in my thoughts.
Weather here is rather cold to-day, but we are not going anywhere anyway.
Never have gone to the parade.
Mary i am glad that your ankle is healing well and hopefully your wrist will continue to as well, Liz did you ever get to read "The light in the Window" yet, if you did what did you think?.
Must go dinner to get talk soon again.

Deanna I am pleased that you have got your new chair, it must be comfortable if you slept all day in it.
Mary your lounge sounds nice and fresh, pale green is very claming, should be helpful with the children.
Eileen. no, not driving to Spain, flying from Southampton.

We seem to have spring too, absolutely lovely sunshiny day, warm, yesterday was in the high 60's.
Carole I saw my house on Google too and they had to pick a day when we were waiting for a load of reno materials to be removed from the driveway!! the street number is wrong, my number is 36 and I think it was at #48 I found myself!!
Having a lazy morning, babysitting our Haitian friend's 2 y/o daughter who is having a lovely nap right now.
My lounge is now pale green and I think I like it, just have to finish painting some white trim and then we can start moving things back.
Ankle is healing but hand is still pretty tender, but at least parts of it now have feeling!!!!
Cheers to you all,
Mary

Good afternoon everyone,

It is a lovely spring-like day, quite warm outside.I have my bedding hanging out of the window, but am careful to put the openings of pillow slips and duvet on the inside, after often finding wasps, bees & flies inside them…scary when this wakes you up at night.

Carole, my daughter downloaded the E8 thingy weeks ago, but messages appear every day to say I should download it….????

Deanna, is your chair an electric one ? This sounds terrible, I don’t mean THE electric chair!!!
My aunty had one specially made for her in 2004, she loved it. I got rid of it when she died…couldn’t bear seeing it in the house, it was too upsetting.

Gail, how is your cat now? Have you had to make the heart-breaking decision to have him put to sleep? My old cat Lapje, was 17 and a half when she was put to sleep, I cried buckets…she too had serious kidney probs.

Lily, I’m o.k, thanks for asking. Anniversaries are always a sad tiime when we lose a loved one. My only brother died in dec. 1979, from injuries due to a crash…still seems like yesterday sometimes.

Ann, hope you throughly enjoy your hols. In Andalucia…leaving the same day us us? Not driving there though?

Happy St. Paddy’s Day to all the Irish on this thread. I’m going to an Irish pub in Eindhoven with a daughter. There is a really crummy (Dutch) band playing, but, she justs wants to be with other Irish folk today. Mind you, they are mostly as drunk as skunks, very rowdy, so will have to grin and bear it for an hour or so….Am only going for daughter’s sake.LOL.

Take care, and be happy.

Hi Steve drove to the next town to get our pc seen to, as he seems to have locked himself out of his settings. No one working at the shop, so he brought puter home! Will have to phone next time before he goes running off to Newark!

Been to see the practise nurse this afternoon, I have asthma and COPD. Then I had the runs this morning thought I was going to be ill all day so called in work sick, but not been too bad. Back to work in the morning.

Gail I'm so sorry your poor cat is poorly. It's really upsetting isn't it. We love our pets so much. They give us comfort and make the house alive. Always pleased to see us come home. As we are pleased to see them. Sending you hugs xxx

Deanna glad you have your lovely new chair

Lincolnshire is now on google street! My house is really clear, pleased the garden looked nice that day!! My friend was caught out in the street in her car (so blurred out), and her friend was stood at the side of the car, also face blurred. But we know it's them. Anyone else seen their house? I know Gale has, I had a look. It's idylic!!

Seen the post on outdated browser? I think thats something to do with our computer problem. I downloaded E8 to up date my browser as GR said that was why I couldn't see my hot matches. Now Steve can't get the internet on his window

Ben, I think you are probably right, but we have to be so careful about what we say to and tell other people. We don't really know each other and it would be so easy to give too much away... on the other hand, I like people and if they hurt me badly enough, they do not get a second chance.... I have run my life like that, rightly or wrongly.
We do have to open ourselves up to the risk of pain or we will do nothing at all in our lives.
Stick with us babe, we are all nice..ish.. people and if can manage thus far without losing any of us, we are doing fine.
Chin up Ben, we are as safe on here as we can be.... just be a little careful. Bless you.X

My chair has arrived, and it is a joy.
I have had a pretty bad day today... physically, not mentally, but I am planning on an early night even though I have managed to sleep in my chair most of the day!

Love to all and perhaps tomorrow I will be better, hope all of you are too.

Love and extra hugs to Carole, H and S's family. Thinking of all of you through this very hard time.

We have had a busy weekend. We had a rush trip to the Vets, no mean feet I assure you. One of our lovely cats had a blockage and was operated on yesterday. He is recovering but still in vet hospital, not well but will be okay eventually. OH and I have decided we will only have female cats (de-sexed of course) from now on as males tend to have more kidney problems than the females. We thought the poor boy would expire before we got him there. Even though he has loads of different food to choose from he mainly eats dried food, a big no no apparently. He has not long started to eat pouches of food, so this may be the way to go. Our lovely very very old cat has only been eating the pouches for a few months now as well as a little dried food. But at her age she is entitled to eat what she wants. So male puss looks like getting a big change in diet, and probably a lifetime on pills. He has huge teeth so OH can do the honours with the help of a pill popper. I will sit on puss while OH administers. No laughter please.

Love and hugs

gail

Edit, Vet has just rang and boyo is not doing as well as expected. More test to be done but also warned may have to make the big decision. Next 24 hours we will know, maybe. I am sitting here in tears, not only for boyo but Carole and her daughter.

I have learned from experience that a lot of internet users such as trolls and baiters and argumentative people find it so easy to pretend to be something they are not and act all hard and macho online, things they wouldn't do in person. Someone reckons people are more genuine on the internet something I strongly disagree with. Many people are less genuine mainly internet trolls as they say things to wind up other people and exaggerate things, things they wont do in person face to face.

What a sad Mother's Day your daughter's friend's family will have Carole, heartbreaking that as well as the actual date of the tragedy, they will have the reminder whenever it is Mother's Day as it's so close this year. I hope the family can rally round and help out with S's little boy who will be bewildered and upset as they mourn S. themselves and deal with all there is to arrange. Life is so cruel. May S. rest in peace.

Lily, you must feel sad remembering your dear sister this month.

Best wishes for Mother's Day to all Mums on here.
My son is coming round later today and hopefully it will be bright and dry so we can go out somewhere.

At Christmas my son got me a book called Norwich Memories which I haven't had a chance to read yet, only dip into. It's full of interviews collected by Norwich Living History Group and has a cd included which I am listening to at the mo. A lady is speaking about her childhood, some years before mine but very similar, mentioning her mother cooking and her dad working when he could get work, and her Mum always being busy so not much time to do activities with the children. She has mentioned the Cardinal red polish on the floors of the Council house, and I recall my Mum using the same stuff on our floors too. Sounds very similar to my childhood too and mentioning all the places I grew up knowing and visiting.
