My thoughts are, if you alter it will it still be the same box to you Linda? Just a thought.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Jul 2010 14:56

I have finished it now and I am really pleased with it, one B&W and one colour photo.

Von Report 7 Jul 2010 15:35

Linda
Maybe rather than altering the box you could keep something special in there.
Maybe even write down the memories you have of your uncle and keep it in the box then your descendants will know why you treasured the box.
I've lots of bits like that so maybe I need to get writing.

Recently I scanned some pieces of paper that I had painted and that I liked too much to cut. They have printed out really well and I can cut away to my hearts content knowing that I can print out another piece.
Take care
Von

Pleased to hear that you have finished your page Ann and you are pleased with it. The last page I did was using 5 photos...very not me at all as I usually only use one photo but you gave me the inspiration to use more when reading this thread. I had the layout for at least a week on the desk...swapping and changing every so often but it really worked out well. Our 2 eldest grandsons on the beach.

As for my wooden box...I agree Ann my thoughts exactly however I got carried away with the Altered Art bit... very creative though. It does look a little forlorn and I will just titivate it up someway...nothing drastic though me thinks.

Do you know Von I never thought of that..I ask myself why lol! He was my only maternal side uncle and although he emigrated to Aus in 1965 (I was a mere 20 year old and just married) we were always extremely close. I have a drawer full of letters and photos etc I never threw anything away...far too precious. Many thanks.

Oh I wish I could paint...I am not at all artistic. I did start taking photos of rocks, stones and sand etc for seaside page themes though....again I think this was one of your tips Ann??

Jane, I will nudge up the birthday cards thread, go on there where there are more proficient card makers than me, Jo will probably know. I know the ones you mean though.

Linda, glad you were able to get inspiration from this thread.

Well... my cuttlebug is going to get plenty of use now lol. We have been away for the weekend and I found a craft shop that sold Sizzix Tim Holtz Alterations dies...I went mad and bought 2.

One die is 2 lovely swirls and the other is a hanging sign complete with bracket.

I didn't get chance to try them out tonight so guess what I will be doing tomorrow!!

I'm envious Linda! I've had my eyes on the Tim Holtz dies since before they reached this country but so far them being in stock has never matched with me having money to spend. Perhaps I will be able to treat myself when I get the stuff I have been sorting out sold on ebay. That's one of the reasons I've not been about trying to sort my stash mountain, that and real life getting in the way of my online one - the weather has been too nice not to be outside

Cheshiremaid Report 14 Jul 2010 01:35

Lol Sarah...I blame you for getting me interested in Tim Holtz's stuff in the first place! Along with the TSV kit I bought a while back on QVC I now have a drawer full of distress ink pads. Seeing the dies in the shop and knowing how difficult they are to get hold of I just had to snap them up.

They work brilliantly with the Cuttlebug and the swirls are just lovely however I have only experimented using cardstock. I went on to YouTube and found a video using the dies on the Cuttlebug with chipboard...so I have now ordered some chipboard online!

Good luck with EBay.

Just finished another page. Out of my comfort zone this one as it is quite minimalistic.... for me!! Just the one largish photo in sepia and a few flowers. Pleased with it though.

SarahSalopianScrapper

SarahSalopianScrapper Report 24 Jul 2010 16:04

It's good to venture outside of that comfort zone occasionally Ann.

I'm no nearer putting any of my craft bits on ebay but did take some with me this morning when I went to do a car boot sale. And sold all the craft stuff I'd took. I'd sold a few bits and pieces but then one guy bought everything I'd got left to take home for his wife LOL

What a nice man, I hope she was pleased. still you got rid of some of it then Sarah so will have a bit of space. I want to do some pages to commemorate our Golden weddin, I have got the photos now more or less, just need to find the time!!!

AnninGlos Report 11 Aug 2010 17:28

I am quite proud of myself as I have almost finished the scrap book of our 50 years together. It is not 50 pages you understand, I have condensed the years down to two or three pages a decade plus a few extra in some. It will be about 24 sides altogether, then I will add photos from out holiday in Jersey and the family party later. It has been difficult because I can only do it when OH is out at golf and he's cut golf down to twice a week while he has the garden to do. still about two pages to go now. They are not complicated pages, more photo album decorated I suppose but it is the style we like for memory albums.

JustGinnie

JustGinnie Report 11 Aug 2010 17:52

Oh that sounds lovely Ann, mine are like decorated photo albums as I nearly always use more than 1 photo on each page. I always think that each is our own creation so it will be as we like it not as others think it should be.
I bet you have enjoyed reminiscing at all the photos, it's amazing how the years fly by isn't it?

AnninGlos Report 11 Aug 2010 20:50

Yes I have enjoyed looking back, although it is frightening doing it year by year and seeing yourself age in front of your eyes!! It will be nice to keep though and to pass on to whoever eventually wants it.

AnninGlos Report 30 Aug 2010 21:57

Just to let you know that OH loved the scrap book as did all the family when I took it to our party, they were all in there somewhere so had fun seeing each other. I won't have time to finish it off with the photos we took at the party until we come back from tenerife. And by then it will be Christmas card time!!!!

Many belated Congratulations to you Ann and your OH on your 50th Wedding Anniversary. It was a certainty that your OH would love your album...so many happy memories to look back on.

Perhaps I will surprise my OH with such an album on our 50th...just another 5 years to go however the way my scrapping is going at the moment I may just about get it finished in time lol.

Oh yes... tried and tested Sissix dies with the Cuttlebug using chipboard. I found no problem using just the 2 B plates and going back and forth a couple of times. They worked perfectly.

Enjoy your holidays.
