You don't give any background. Would be useful to know if your grandfather was adopted or he stayed in contact with his mother after his father died.

Looks like he was a half brother as he was born after your grandad's father died.

His mother married again 2 years later and had another son.

No sign of any of them on 192.com

My Grandad's Name is arthur george pountney - born 1946
His Father arthur pountney (1913 - Edmonton) married Elizabeth Sarah Ann Wood (1923 - poplar) in poplar in 1945.
Arthur Pountney died in 1954.

Elizabeth Sarah Ann Wood had several boyfriends from what i have heard, All would be in the company of her children who were all under the age of 14 years old, something bad ended up happening and my grandad (arthur george pountney)
chucked her out. He was protecting his younger siblings. Elizabeth was apparently pregnant (early days).

My grandad told me he chucked her out around 1959-1962.

William O Pountney comes up with all my grandads siblings, same parents, same area. William might not even know the full background of his mother. In 1963 when she had a child her name was still Pountney, she was a widow, a single mum. that didn't happen in them days. I think she put arthur pountney on his birth certificate because she didn't have a father for her child until she married Frederick Lindsey in 1965 In Poplar.

Who was this other son?

My Grandad always joked saying apparently she moved on and started a new family all over again. Never thought it could be true as i couldn't find any records.
I can't find any evidence of Elizabeth after 1965. Does make you wonder if she is alive still, she would be in her 90's. In london for sure.

The child of a married or widowed woman, is always assumed to also be her husband's child, even if he died well before the child was conceived.

The only exception is when the birth father was present at the registration.

Do you have William's BC? Does it actually name Arthur as his father, or are you assuming it does from his surname? We can't see the Genealogist Link unless we are members.

Assuming he lived with his mother, William may have taken on his step-father's name, or be known by anyother name she chose to use!

On your other thread, you were advised to purchase Elizabeth's BC. The exact date of birth might make is easier to find her death registration, assuming she died before 2006. Currently that is the last year that records are available on line.

As long as all of her names were used, it might be possible to search for Elizabeth S A (no surname) born dd/mm/yy

Elizabeth S Pountney (and Arthur before his death) were living at 4 Gawthorne Street, Bow from 1945 - with a number of Wood's - she last appears on the ER for 1963. The qualifying date for the 1963 ER was 10/10/1962 - so that may give a better time frame for her departure.

In 1964 a different family were recorded at that address - Helen & John Townsend - so it would look like she departed after 10/10/1962 but before the next QD of 10/10/63, and from your information obviously before the birth of William.

Williams birth cert may give an address for where she was living

Ill be totally honest,
yesterday i was giving information from my grandad Arthur George Pountney,
he was sent a letter telling him his mother passed away in 2014 in a nursing home.
she went by the name of: Sarah Lindsey at that moment in time, her real name/maiden name was in fact Elizabeth Sarah Wood until she married Arthur Pountney in 1945 making her Elizabeth Sarah Pountney. She went on to have 5 children in this marriage until Arthur Pountney died in 1955 at the age of 42.
Around 1959 something happened within their household and my grandad and his younger siblings didnt ever see her again. My grandad heard she may of been pregnant when she she left around 1959 but he never chased it to find out more. When doing my research i found a William 'O' Pountney born matching up with her pregnancy (if she had one of course) looking deeper into his record, in fact his name is William 'D' Pountney it was a typing error on that record The next thing he heard was she got remarried in 1965 to a Frederick Lindsey, by record i can see they had one child together his name is Frederick J Lindsey 1965-.......
My grandad bumped into her in 1996 and the only thing she said to him was Frederick died a couple of years ago. If these two children of hers William and Frederick are really related we just wanted to know if they knew about our family, we don't know if they are aware she had other children. I cant seem to find any more information on them since 1965. I have hit a brick wall now until i found out Sarah/Elizabeth Died in 2014.

Jax your the only connection i have ever come across?
Are you related to William?

Been searching for too many years now.

Thanks, Jade Vale

Jade,

I don't think Jax is related to your family. Like most people on Genes Jax just likes to help out with looking up information for other members. I'm not even sure if Jax still uses the boards as a lot of members have left Genes in the last couple of years, so you may not get a reply.
