Porter family of Rotherham

Probably total coincidence but I was at school in Rotherham in the 50's/60's with a Susan Porter who would have been born 1945/6. She was a relative of the actor Eric Porter so this may be worth looking into?

Sue
Update - just Googled Eric Porter and saw a Family Announcement there from a family member trying to trace other relatives, esp Eric's Half Sister. No mention there tho of Rotherham, so - as I said - probably total coincidence!

Thank you once again DetEcTive for all your suggestions and especially for the electoral role site and how to find post codes.
I'll work on getting each family member of James Thomas Porters offspring, and any successive generations I have. Today I received an email from a second cousin in England who has found out a few more (sad) facts. James son, John Richard lost one son Edwin Arthur at three years of age, and John Richard himself died in an accident aged only 38. His son John Richard only lived till he was 28. Tragic for the whole family.
Well it's once again gone midnight here in Australia so I really must finish, but will definitely follow up on all your suggestions.
Warm regards
Pauline

Smacked hands, perilous! :-D

Its unlikely that a descendent member of GR will stumble upon your thread- you have to go out and find them.

It might help if you were to make a list of the Porters with their full names including their year and place of birth to add to the thread.

One day in the future a descendent might come across the post and wish to contact you. Even if you let your sub lapse, make sure that the dormant account is always linked to current email address. That way they can purchase credits/take out a free trial and send you a message by clicking on your name.

If you have the names of people likely to be alive and living in England, Wales or Scotland, you might find their current address on http://www.searchelectoralroll.co.uk/Electoral_Roll_Search.asp
You’d need to check the given post code on a free search on http://www.192.com/?gkw=192+com
To see the last year listed.
Despite our own enthusiasm, not everyone is interested in FH and may not appreciate your interest.

It is possible to leave a Post’em against BMD index entries on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/
If you choose to do that, take out a generic email account on say @gmail or @hotmail so that you aren’t swamped by junk mail.

Estates which went to Probate can be found on
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
Until c1966, the names of the Executors are given.

If you wanted help to find a specific person, then by all means add their name/Yob/Pob and who and were they married and we'll do our best to find them.

Do remember that this is not a secure site so we must be careful not to divulge information which would invade their privacy. Also, it is against GRs T&C to add the names of living people (or rather the names of people likely to be living) to your tree without their permission. Even if you 'hide living relatives' the entries come up on a tree search.

Hi again,
Something else to add and take away any confusion about the William in the 1891 census, born 1891 Bramley Yorkshire,I believe is the Henry born 1891 in Stanningley Yorkshire in the 1901 census as Williams second name is Henry. In the 1911 census he is also called Henry born 1891 Stanningley Yorkshire. I am almost certain William and Henry are the same person. With so many children it would have been easy to mix up the birth places I'm sure.
I had no marriage for Arthur's son, Arthur Edward, so thank you for that information - I will follow up on his children as you suggested.
Many thanks
Pauline

Thank you so much DetEcTive and Malyon for all the work you have put in for me. I'm sorry I neglected to write that I had ten of the children's names including Sarah who died in Rotherham when she was only 8 years old, but I have never been able to find the remaining two children who died. I have marriages for Arthur, Thomas, John, Walter, James, Alice, William and of course my grandmother Martha - Elizabeth never married. I also have children for Arthur, Thomas, John, Walter, James, Alice and William, but even after checking all the associated trees that have the children's names, have never been able to come up with a living relative. When I posted my request in this forum it was because I hoped some living relatives might have known they were descended from James porter and Victorine Scholefield. So unfortunately I didn't give you the details I already knew. I Sincerely apologise.
Trying to find the missing two children has been hampered by the fact that James and Victorine travelled from one town to another while adding to their family, so I wouldn't know where to begin looking. It was only when they settled in Rotherham, where I was born, that I was able to find the children's marriages and their subsequent children. There just have to be some Porters living but I've never succeeded in finding them. If you are both still willing to help me I can give you the wives and children's names.
Thank you once again for your help , and again I apologise for not being more forthcoming,
Warm regards
Pauline
